How to Add Color to Your wikiHow Talk Page
Have you seen others on wikiHow with a colored talk page? Do you want yours to have your own personality? To color your talk page follow these simple steps.
[edit] Steps
HTML Color Codes Method
- Choose a color from http://html-color-codes.com/ or from http://anglesanddangles.com/colorchart.php.
- Click on the Edit tab at the top of your talk page.
- Add the following line to the top of your talk page:
<div style="background-color:#000000"> - Fill in the six zeros with your hexadecimal code. For example, to choose a grey background, your hexadecimal color code would be "#CCCCCC".
- Press Save.
Backgroundcolor Template Method
- Know the name and the spelling of your color.
- Click on the Edit This Page link at the top of your talk page.
- At the very top of your talkpage put {{Backgroundcolor|1}}
- Replace 1 with the name of your color (remember to keep the name un-capitalized, and use "_" instead of a space.)
- Add to the summary box "coloring page".
- Press preview.
- Press save.
[edit] Tips
- You can experiment with hexadecimal coding by replacing any of the zeros with the following: any number from 0-9, or any letter from A-F. The minimum value is "00" and the maximum value is "FF", but does not mean that you can't use "A0" or "90".
- The first two spaces control red, so "#FF0000" would give you the brightest red possible. Similarly, "#990000" will give you a darker red.
- The next two spaces control green, so "#00FF00" would give you the brightest green possible.
- The last two spaces control blue, so "#0000FF" would give you the brightest blue possible.
- Try mixing letters up! For example, "#9A9A00" will give you a dark yellow, whereas "#FFFF00" will give you a bright yellow!
- If the code is not working for you, you may have typed one of the symbols incorrectly. Use the copy and paste function to avoid any code mistakes and then it should work for you.
- You can also apply these methods to your User Page.
[edit] Warnings
- Be sure not to put any spaces between any of the letters or numbers in the codes, or it will not work.
- Don't use very dark background colors. Remember that you still want your talk page to be readable!
- Do not use colored text or background colors in actual wikiHow articles; these techniques should only be used on your userpage and/or your talk page.
