[edit] Steps
- The first step is to FORGET ANYTHING NEGATIVE you have heard about Black Metal. Form your own opinion.
- You must know what this type of music is before you try to listen to it. Folk metal is melodic, has gruff vocals and incorporates the violin.
- Scandinavia is the home of this type of metal. Start out with bands like Dimmu Borgir, Finntroll and Korpiklanni. They are melodic and the latter two incorporate violin heavily into their music. The themes of these bands include drinking, wilderness and religion.
- Now try some Eluveitie and Ensiferum. The themes are still easy, they discuss battle, victory, hunting and vikings.
- By now you probably have a hearty viking idea of this music so go a little heavier. Try some MayheM and Burzum. These bands have a deeper message and are somewhat darker. These bands discuss folklore, fantasy, religion and Pagan rituals.
- Now try to analyze the messages in most of the music.
[edit] Tips
- Try to listen to the lyrics and look at the message. This is a great way to learn about paganism.
- Some other bands of this genre to check out: Falkenbach, Emperor, Enslaved, Darkthrone, Lumsk, Vintersorg, Heidevolk, Einherjer and Bathory.
