How to Be Goth Without Looking Scary
Do you write dark poetry? Do you listen to "heavy" music? Do you have the characteristic sultry attitude? If the answer to any of these questions is yes, you can be goth. This article is all about achieving that, without the drastic appearance of an extreme Goth.
[edit] Steps
- Make sure that you lose the spikes. That will immediately tag you as an extreme Goth.
- Wear black, but keep it simple. Lay off the fishnets, the phantom skirts and vinyl pants. Try hoodies (the cat-eared ones are great), preferably black or dark blue, featuring your favorite Goth band; over sized t-shirts and black pants or black jeans.
- Avoid the pink laces and bright white sneakers. Look for dark Converses, Vans, skater shoes, or boots.
- Never use heavy eyeliner. Instead use light eyeliner that is not applied too thickly. Foundation should not be so white as to make you look dead, or like a porcelain doll. Use a minimum of makeup, so as to compliment your looks, and not exagerate it.
- Add a bit of color to both your wardrobe and your personality. Try Dark Blue or other semi-dark colors. Remember, Goths aren't bad people, and are not always negative. Don't be afraid to be happy! Smile and be yourself - Goths don't have to be depressing..
[edit] Tips
- Go easy on the eyeliner! You don't want to scare people.
- Do something different with your hairstyle.
- Smile at people!
- Pretend that your parents don't allow the goth look, just wear what you would get away with.
- Don't try too hard to look goth. If the colour black doesn't suit you wear another colour that suits better. Dress appropriately for your shape, colour, size and age.
[edit] Warnings
- People may not really think you are Goth, but may call you "emo," instead.
- Dont be afraid to let people inside and get to know you, you may be goth but you shouldn't exclude yourself from everyone else, and be a total outcast!
