A lot of people have felt ugly or unattractive. However, don't conform to other people's standards of pretty. Here's a few steps to becoming "pretty in punk".

[edit] Steps

  1. Search deviantart.com for "punk" images, and look at the styles of some of the punks in your area.
  2. Find some music you're into. Try The Clash, The Ramones, Anti-Flag, Bad Religion, Sex Pistols, The Distillers, Calabrese etc.
  3. Be an individual. Don't take other people's styles, because you'll look like a poser. Be yourself.
  4. Find a makeup style you're comfortable with. If you're one of those people who don't want to wear makeup, fine, that's who you are.
  5. Find a nice hairstyle. A popular style is the Mohawk, and while they look awesome, they're very hard to maintain sometimes, depending on their length.
  6. Start making clothing. Only you know what cut and style fits you best, so take a few clothing classes, and make some shirts. DIY (do it yourself) clothing is a staple in punk subculture, and it looks pretty cool besides.
  7. Be confident. How you view yourself projects onto how others see you, so if you're confident and outgoing you're more likely to have a lot of friends and potential love interests.
  8. Don't let being overweight stop you! A lot of the time people let their pants size determine how they dress- be who you are, and don't let anyone tell you "no".
  9. The Next time you go to the mall, reconsider. Clothing at a thrift store is cheaper and more individual. Just look for good colors and materials--you can change the rest! Remember step six?
  10. Keep your hair as natural or as fake (dye, straightener, whatever!) as you want to. Figure out what you like and look for it.
  11. If you have to go shopping with your parents and they hate your style, just get stuff that they don't hate or don't like either. Compromise. Eventually they'll get used to it and let you buy whatever you want.

[edit] Tips

  • A lot of the time people fear, hate or reject what they don't understand, so be prepared to back up why you're punk.
  • Bright hair is awesome. Oddly colored hair is often seen in punk.
  • Get into politics- there's nothing more punk than being politically opinionated. Read about Lenin and Che Guevara, know what's going on in the world.
  • If none of these sound like what you're looking for, and you're more into Boys like Girls and Simple Plan, you might want to check out "scene" or "pop punk". Neither of those bands are "punk".
  • Don't be afraid of wearing colors. Everything doesn't have to be black.
  • If you have blonde hair, try getting it bleached.
  • Streaking your hair is good too, try an unusual color like lime green or hot pink if your parents let you
  • If you like to wear nail polish, here are some good colors: Bright green, green, blood red, black, white, or dark purple
  • For lipstick, try wearing: bright red, black, or dark purple
  • Boots are your friends

[edit] Warnings

  • If you wear a school uniform you may get in trouble for changing it or having radical hair/piercings
  • People will criticize you, so be prepared to take it.
  • Your parents might not like such a radical change.
  • If you get tattoos or piercings, be very careful about where you get it done.
  • One of the only decent kind of punk bands right now is Puddle of Mudd; and they're really a grunge. But Rise Against is definitely up there (Look at their older stuff) *find the true meaning of punks *Debby Harry and Johnny Ramone are the two people you should admire.
