How to Be Safe at Railroad Tracks

Here is how to be safe at railroad tracks.

[edit] Steps

  1. Be train aware at all times. Trains can come at anytime during the day or at night. Expect a train at any time. The should be a sound if a train is coming. Be prepared to stop.
  2. Obey obvious signals that a train is coming. If the bars are going down and the lights are flashing, stop. Wait for the train to go by.
  3. Keep in one place until you get the all-clear. If the bars stay down, don't proceed. There may be another train coming.
  4. Do not go across the tracks if the bars are down. That is dangerous and is illegal.
  5. Never attempt to race the train in a car. You might get stuck on the tracks and not get across in time.

[edit] Tips

  • Obey signs that say where to cross and where not to cross. Many railway stations post fine signs as well.

[edit] Warnings

  • Do not train surf; this frequently ends in severe injury or death.
