This article may fall into the exact same topic as every other "How To be Scene" article on Wikihow. But this is not "how to be scene" but how to appropriately pull off the Scene look and attitude without presenting the stereotypical scene label. This is how NOT to be a poser and how to ACTUALLY BE UNIQUE.
[edit] Steps
- First. Choose what type of hair you want. If you have really short hair, then keep it short. Don't add extensions. Dye it a color you want. Keep it simple though- like blonde, black, or even keep it natural. Short+Choppy layers is KEY.
- If your hair is long, get it cut professionally. Do whatever you want with it, but do keep in mind that in order to look "scene" it is best to get razored, choppy, short layers on the top of your hair so you can tease it, or spike it, or gel it ANYWAY you want. The typical puffy-top hair is what EVERY scene girl has. So keep a fairly good length but add plenty of layers, regardless of what every single scene person out there has.
- Dress the part: Wear skinny jeans. Keep them fairly long, but make sure they are not too tight. Don't just wear denim jeans because those or boring. Dont be afraid to wear crazy, random, bright jeans! Get some with prints on them! BE BOLD. Scene kids are known for being random and loud and for having a dont-give-a-crap attitude. Although, DON'T do anything too bad, like drugs or alcohol.
- Think outside the box: Wear spaghetti straps, tank tops, layered tees. Keep them simple up top though. Its acceptable to wear short shorts! Just dont look skanky.
- Accessorize! Wear lots of necklaces, bright chokers, chains, collars, beads, strings, bands, paperclips, crosses! If you can string it around your neck, WEAR IT! Same goes for wristbands, but dont go TOO crazy on your wristbands. Some scene kids wear a lot of black stuff, but you don't have to. However, if you do, then remember the bright, neon colors! Wear crazy multicolored wristbands, rubber bands, strings, hairties, bracelets, chains, charms, watches, bandannas!
- Keep yourself clean. Take good care of your hair and skin and nails. Paint your nails different colors and don't stick with one color [especially black, or pretty much any color] for too long.
- DO YOUR MAKE UP RIGHT! Start off with a good, clean foundation, that matches your skin tone. Wear black eyeliner on the top AND bottom eyelids, but only make the line about 3cm thick on the top, and about 2cm thick on the bottom. Cover the corners of your eyes, front and back and end with a little cat-eye. DON'T apply eyeshadow, as this is too typical and will crowd your face.
- Next add lipgloss- a simple, shimmery pink will do. Nothing too drastic.
- Only get a MySpace if you're not going to paste yourself everywhere as a scene kid! THIS SCREAMS POSER! And if you do, don't drab it with stupidity. Keep it simple and personal.
- Breathe! HAVE FUN. Hang out with everybody, not just the scene kids. Make friends and don't be a snob. And don't ditch your morals just to be cool. I know everyone says it, but its TRUE.
[edit] Tips
- Bright hoodies are cool too.
- Just be yourself.
- Get into the music. Go to shows of any genre- punk, rap, crunk, metal, screamo, hip hop, pop, indie, electronica. Listen to every single type of music and get a good knowledge of the artists. Show people that you CAN be the cool, nice, outgoing, gorgeous scene girl with a sense of style and with an open mind!
