How to Be Smart and Study when You're Homeschooled

Thousands of children of all ages, are homeschool across the world, claiming to get better results and have an easier time all round. Homeschooling experience can be made pleasurable as well as useful.

[edit] Steps

  1. Make sure you have all the necessary materials. Pencils, pens, highlighters, to make your work bright and funky and to spur you onto new levels, exercise books and notebooks, eraser, ruler, calculator and glue stick are essentials.
  2. Invest in textbooks to help you keep to the things you need to learn and to back up the other things you learn from different sources. Also get interesting looking books from any subject that interests you from the library or your local bookstore.
  3. Draw up a timetable with all the subjects - such as math, science, English and so on - written in so that you don't skim over the subjects you don't like and spend far too much time on the easier subjects. It is also helpful to have a list of things you need to do each day.
  4. Stick to your timetable - it may take determination but if you set your mind to it, it will become easier and easier.

[edit] Tips

  • Eat healthy foods at scheduled times of the day - this will establish a routine and the healthy foods or brain foods will help you to focus on your study.
  • Homeschooling can be lonely - take on sports such as soccer or netball or get involved in groups that you are interested in - such as art groups or martial arts. These groups will provide you with friends and acquaintances.

[edit] Warnings

  • One of the best things about homeschooling is being able to spend more time on the subjects that interest you and less on those subjects that you don't find quite so interesting. However, make sure that you focus on even the boring subjects - like math - otherwise you will be far behind when your grade ten and twelve examinations pop up.

[edit] Things You'll Need

  • Notebooks and exercise books
  • Textbooks
  • A library
  • A clean, ventilated, well lit space
  • Healthy foods that will give you brain power
