How to Be a Floater

Floaters are an ideal social standing. They know they are liked by pretty much everyone and are liked by pretty much everyone- the only place that they can't eat their lunch is on top of the president's lunch, for now. They fit in and like all groups- popular, drama kids, jocks, preps, nerds, gangsta's, shy people, spazzes, whoever it is, they are good friends or decent acquaintances with pretty much everyone. Here's how to be one, and all it entails. They generally dress in semi preppy clothes (Wal Mart clothes) and they do not hang too much with the scene stereotypes, such as punk, goth, and emo. They are very common as juniors and seniors in high school.

[edit] Steps

  1. Look the part. Floaters generally have a style that will mesh well with any group- this isn't boring, though. They always put their own spin on it. They are also nicely groomed, so people aren't grossed out around them. For the grooming take a shower everyday, blow dry, brush and style, wear deodorant, use zit cream, wash your face, brush, floss, shave, wax, etc, stay clean, and wear whatever make-up you feel you need. For the sense of style, you want to fit in with lots of people- one very versatile store is Aeropostale- popular, drama kids, jocks, preps, emo, gangstas, and shy people have all been known to shop there. Also get a few nice designer items(TJMaxx, be sure to have a designer handbag, YOU WILL NEED IT, but a good knock off or one from plato's closet is also fine) so you'll fit in with rich people, too. Now it's time to put your own spin on things- get a signature fashion "thing" such as wearing red on Friday(it's the color of confidence, right?), have your belt loop unbuckled, wearing uggs, or always incorporating the same diamond stud earrings into your outfit. If you can't afford Hollister and other similar brands, go shop at Wal Mart because Wal Mart generally sells clothes for the normal teen demographic.
  2. Now you need to be well rounded. Do school plays, choir/band, a sport, and some after school lessons. Get good grades, and get a tutor if you have ANY doubt about a subject. Floaters are amazingly well rounded and comfortable in every sphere of the school, therefore, with everyone. You will know lots of people, be able to sit or hang about just about anywhere at lunch, and get invited to tons of parties this way because you know everyone and everyone genuinely likes you.
  3. Get the attitude. Be very nice to everyone, have all their phone numbers and all that, and keep a clean lunch rotation. Be very confident, but not too-too full of it, know when to pull the modest, Carrie Underwood, "awww, shucks." thing. Love yourself- I mean, everyone else does, right?
  4. Have friends all over. Not just in your school, but get everyone's AIM, MySpace addresses, e-mail, and cell number when you go to camp, play rehearsal, out of school soccer, whatever it is, get it and use it, keep your phone list endless.
  5. Get a MySpace or Facebook. MySpace.com is a place for friends and you can pretty much be accepted by anybody you add here. Add a variety of friends... not just one type of people and be safe on there. Don't add any creepy people, don't overdo the personal information (keep your profile a basic layout, a few graphics, maybe some music or videos, and the interests, about me stuff), and if somebody is a jerk on there, report them.

[edit] Tips

  • Have a BFF you do this with, so you don't get lonely.
  • Get some designer clothes, so you'll fit in when you sit with the wealthier cliques. Go to outlets of TJmaxx if this is too expensive. If any of this stuff is too expensive, shop at Wal Mart.
  • Be good at any sports and clubs you are in.
  • Still make time for your family. They'll stick with you longer than "that- girl- you- sometimes- talk- to- at- rehearsal" ever will, and it really is important.
  • Don't talk to ALL groups- floaters usually ignore the sluts, goth, hardcore gangsta', radical redneck and druggies, just steer clear.
  • Get an AIM sn, they're the most common, you don't need AOL to get one.
  • Wear a cheerful, subtle perfume, like "spirit" by A&F, or "happy" by Clinique. These aren't too expensive, either. So good!
  • Keep your make-up natural when in doubt.
  • If you have a few small zits, don't fret, floaters are loved, not idolized, anyway. But try to avoid "pizza" place
  • Have lots of parties where you invite pretty much everyone.
  • Vary your routine a little sometimes- it makes you more cheerful.
  • Be silly sometimes, people will just adore you for that! But don't be annoying.
  • Keep up with pop culture type stuff, always. People talk about it and break into Fergie and Flo-Rida songs all the time, good to be prepared, right? Learn cool dances such as the "Soulja boy" dance and break it out at parties. Listen to top 40, urban contemporary, hot country, and adult contemporary to keep up with the latest trends in music, but also listen to some of the stuff you like to, even if you like folk music, new age, or classical or something weird like that.
  • Read something more than stupid blogs on MySpace or mean YouTube comments. As Dr. Seuss once said, "brains grow more thoughts the more they are fed". Read stuff on politics, religion, culture, history, science, anything.

[edit] Warnings

  • Just because you are tight with the popular girls, don't sit with them all the time unless you want to change from floater to alpha, just remember that they're only people, no matter how nice, and don't get too sucked into the whole thing.
  • Some people will be jealous that you're confident, a track star (not a trap star), friends with the cool kids, and a talented singer or whatever on top of that. Just ignore them?
  • Because of their rebounding nature, floaters often don't have a group of close friends to bond with. Despite being "loved by everyone", you will probably feel incredibly lonely.
  • If a large amount of rivalry breaks out at your school, prepare to be abandoned. The two sides will not want to associate with someone who's been a friend of the "enemy" before.
