How to Be a Freeman

Emo, goth, "scene", punk, skater, gangster, prep... the world is full of labels and "subcultures". Are you not sick of people labeling you? Are you not sick of subconsciously labeling every person you see? If you are, then this article is for you.

[edit] Steps

  1. Freeman is NOT a label. So getting that out of your head is the first step toward becoming a true individual.
  2. Forget everything that MTV, Vogue magazine, and all of the rest of the media has implanted in your head about what is and is not "popular".
  3. Wear what you want as long as it doesn't display a major brand name like American Eagle, Hollister, Nike, Adidas... nothing like that. The whole point of being a freeman is to rebel against what is "popular".
  4. Listen to whatever kind of music you like. It may be techno, rock, rap, country, folk, or nu jazz. Listen to what YOU like because YOU like it, NOT just because it's "in" and "popular".
  5. Do whatever you want with your hair that's different from anything else you've ever done with it before. As long as it goes against what's popular around your general area, it's good. If everyone is growing their hair long, then shave yours off. If everyone is dying their hair blonde, then dye yours black or blue or green.
  6. If you want a piercing, but your friends don't think that it's a good idea, then go for it anyway. If you don't like it after you get it, you can always take it out.
  7. If you want a tattoo but your parents or friends don't agree, do it anyway (provided you've given it sufficient thought, and you're sure that you won't regret it later).

[edit] Tips

  • Be proud of who you are. If you're overweight, but you like to eat, then by all means EAT! As long as YOU can learn to be happy with yourself, then your life will be good.
  • Try to get your friends to follow their own styles, too. The whole point of this article is to give people steps to follow to liberate themselves from the restraints of what is "popular". If everone who reads this liberates ONE friend, and that friend in turn liberates ONE MORE FRIEND, and THAT friend liberates another, and that cycle continues, then eventually, the whole world will be freed, and the Media Monster will be dethroned.

[edit] Warnings

  • People may not accept you if you make a sudden change. Do it anyway- it's worth it.
  • You may lose friends.

[edit] Things You'll Need

  • Hate of being labled.
  • Attitude.
  • The desire to be an individual.
