By staying healthy, you'll be happier, feel better, look better, and be able to accomplish more. This article is directed at teen girls. Read on to discover what you can do to be healthy and happy teen!

[edit] Steps

  1. Get enough sleep. The average teen needs 9 to 10 hours of sleep a night. With projects, extra-curricular, tests, and friends to IM, its likely you don't get to bed until after midnight every night. But there are no tricks to it or ways around it. Getting 9 to 10 hours of sleep is a major factor contributing to how healthy you are.
  2. Drink water. A good rule of thumb is to take your weight and divide in half to find out how much water you should be drinking daily. i.e. If you weigh 100 pounds, you need to drink half that weight in ounces (50 ounces) of water every day. This makes your skin healthier and gives you energy. Not to mention makes you feel full when you have those unnecessary hunger pangs. (a lot of the time you feel water-pangs that feel like hunger pangs. But try not to get them mixed up.)
  3. Eat healthy. This is so important, but is often overlooked. The most important part of it is just to lay off the chips and soda, go for the healthier junk that we so despise. The Canada food guide is a good rule of thumb. For a more personalized eating plan, visit www.mypyramid.com
  4. Exercise, exercise, exercise! Put down that video game! You should be exercising enough to work up a sweat for at least twenty minutes (preferably more) three to five times a week. But don't limit your physical activity to you work outs at the gym: by walking/biking more places you'll get more sunlight, which boosts your mood, and you'll also get some less strenuous physical activity.
  5. If your trying to stay skinny. its not always healthy to be skinny, but its definetly what almost every teenage girl secretly, or not so secrety wishes for. Most of this stuff here is extremely important in staying fit. But most importantly, NEVER rely on pills, meds, starvation, skipping meals, or binging. These things aren't healthy, often times make your body go into survival-mode and storing fat, and are really not fun to go through, dangerous, unhealthy, and emotionally diplating. Its way more easier to just go through it the healthy way. Not to mention it looks better, feels better, and has no side effects. Anorexic and bulimic girls may be skinny, but they are often sickly looking, low-energetic, emotionally dead and depressed. Which is definetly not beautiful.
  6. Personality Pump. its kind of stupid sounding, or something your grandma would say, but a beautiful personality really makes the person seem beautiful. even for the not-so-beautiful. I mean, you all know the snotty, stuck up, brain-washed blondie whom everybody hates. But then there's the pretty, smart, totally friendly, loved-by-all blondie at the other side of the room. Theres not that much difference in their beauty. Most of the time its the personality people shoot for, but sadly, almost all of the time, girls are shooting to be pretty and don't give a thought about their personality. Hey, your personality is yours. Flaunt it in every way, and you'll be like a light bulb. And always keep your personality yours. nobody likes a fake or a liar.
  7. Drink Tea. ESPECIALLY if you dislike drinking water, drinking tea is great. most teas have 0% of fat, carbs, sugar, or anything else. Its healthy, and it tastes good. BUT only if you lay off the sugar and creamer. Yes, we all love creamer and indulge in sugar, but that basically ruins the whole point of tea. If you must have a sweetener, try using honey for sugar, and milk for creamer. Little taste-difference, but huge results in health. Its not so bad.
  8. Stretch. Or take a yoga class. This will improve you overall fitness considerably.

[edit] Tips

  • Try to do as many activities as you can! Being involved with lots of things can boost your self esteem and make you a happy teen. A happy teen is a healthy teen.
  • Smile and be happy! It shines and puts you on top of the crowd.
  • Do what you like! Dance to your favorite music, take your dog for a long walk, and keep your body busy!

[edit] Warnings
