How to Be a Minstrel
Minstrels were a very integral part of medieval Europe. They provide relief from the troubles of being a working class serf and monarch alike. Modern day minstrels are harder to find. They don't look like they used to but you can find them. Naked cowboy in Times Square is one. A Minstrel could easily be the most likeable person in the town if he were to stick around. But a minstrels life is travel remember that.
[edit] Steps
- Look the part. Minstrels dress in a very flashy manner to quickly establish the fact they are indeed here for entertainment. Wear brightly colored tight pants and an exuberant hat.
- Have an instrument. The favored instrument of minstrels was the lute. It was small and could be played standing up so your feet are free to prance or dance in a happy-go-lucky manner. The lute is still in production, but a more modern day alternative would be the guitar or ukulele.
- Be constantly cheering people up. Use your skill with the instrument to sing impromptu songs about people on the street. Sing about their demeanor or clothing and always try and poke fun when possible.
[edit] Tips
- Always play happy songs.
- Always dance.
- Always Smile.
- Never ask for money. A minstrel only accepts room and board, but never asks for anything. Room and board must be offered first.
[edit] Warnings
- Not everyone likes a minstrel. You may be asked to leave by a police officer or a member of the community who obviously opposes fun of any manner.
