Adding New Content to a Collaborative Video

  1. Click the "Add to this Video" button below the player screen on the collaborative video widget.
  2. Follow the simple guided steps to upload your own videos or photos to the collaborative video. You can also import videos and photos from other sources that are compatible with wikiHow's licenses.
    • The process of adding content to an existing Kaltura video is identical to adding content when creating a new video. For detailed instructions, please see the help article on starting new videos.
    • You can either add one file to the video, or select multiple files to add simultaneously. Each new clip will be added automatically at the end of the video; once the clips are uploaded, you can change their order in the Kaltura editor.

Editing Collaborative Videos

  1. Click on the "Edit this Video" button located below the video player screen on the right. You will be directed to an online video editor that enables you to trim videos, change the sequence of videos and photos you uploaded, add transitions and effects.
  2. Make your desired edits.
  3. Save a new version of the video by clicking on the "Publish" button within the editor. You can then choose whether to continue editing or to return to the wiki article.

Viewing Collaborative Video Details and History

  1. Find the "details" icon, similar to the "image enlarge" icon on wiki images located at the bottom right of the video player (see top image on this page for its location).
  2. Click on this icon to be brought to a video info page. Scroll down the page to find the following information:
    • Video Details: video info and summary, last revision date, the code that displays the widget (which you can copy and paste on any article) and a search for pages that link to the widget.
    • History: Similar to image pages, this page also includes a history list detailing all the revisions made and the option to compare two versions. Comparing two versions will display two widgets side by side on the page.
  3. Click on the "Rollback" link in order to revert to a previous version of the collaborative video.

[edit] Tips

  • To create a slideshow rather than a video:
    • Add/import photos only
    • Add text on top of photos using the editor if desired
  • Add a soundtrack (e.g., a recording of you describing the steps) if desired.
  • The Kaltura system is very flexible, and can be reverted just like wiki pages. Don't be afraid to be bold and experiment with it.
