One of the most daunting tasks in the book publishing process is…finding a reputable agent. If you are reading this article then you must be a serious author with your work edited and ready for agents to review.

If you do not have a good query letter ready, then you need to create one before submitting anything to an agent. A good query letter can convince an agent to read your sample chapters, or give them a reason to move on to the next one.

[edit] Steps

  1. Make numerous copies of the letter.
  2. Buy numerous books of stamps.
  3. Get books from the library or go on the Internet to try to determine which agent might be interested in your book and what genre into which it falls.
  4. Randomly select 10 or 15 agents you think might be interested in your book.
  5. Spend valuable time addressing envelopes, putting stamps on them and inserting your query letter.
  6. Drive or walk to the post office to mail letters.
  7. Wait weeks for replies.
  8. When generic rejection letters arrive, you start all over again at number one.
