How to Find a Lost Television Remote

The more electronic equipment you have, the more likely the remote will be hard to find at times.
The more electronic equipment you have, the more likely the remote will be hard to find at times.

Have you ever lost the remote for your television? Here is how to find it.

[edit] Steps

  1. Check around where you usually place it.
  2. Look under something. Your twelve year old might have carelessly tossed the Sunday Times on top of the remote after reading the international section.
  3. Ask other people if they have it.
  4. Check underneath furniture.
  5. Remove the couch pillows. Sometimes the remote will fall between them.
  6. Bang on the bedcovers. This is useful if you watch TV in bed. The remote will often get buried under the sheets or covers and the best way to find it is to just run your hands along the bedspread until you feel something boxlike in shape. If this does not work, look under the bed, and then check the area at the foot of the bed.

[edit] Tips

  • You won't always find your remote the first time looking, but just repeat the procedure until you find it.
  • If you regularly lose the remote, consider buying a remote control holder and keeping it in there. Alternatively, you could just apply a velcro strip to the back of the remote and attach the matching "opposite" velcro strip to the TV and keep the remote firmly attached to the velcro strip on the TV when not in use.
  • Another good idea is to apply a strip of dayglow tape to the remote to make it more visible.
  • When you find the remote, stop looking. Continued looking will not find a remote that is already found.
  • It may also help if you buy a cheap "universal remote control" - a device which can operate most television brands - and keep it in a safe place as a backup.

[edit] Warnings

  • You may have to buy a new one if you can't find it, or worse. You may have to get up out of your chair to change the channel!
