How to Find Exciting Healthy Snacks
Finding an ideal healthy snack without it being boring, bland, or blah is not always easy. When your mouth is reaching for the sugar, let your mind wander over the suggestions in this article to try and sway you to something more on the healthy side.
[edit] Steps
- Sample fruit of different types. Try things like berries, mangoes and grapefruit for a change, rather than resorting to the staple apples and pears. Exotic fruits are ideal, or more-ish fruits like watermelon - all of these are healthy and delicious at once.
- Try eating small pieces of bread, bread fingers, raw veggies with fat-free or low-fat dips. Dips make food taste so nicer, especially when you choose fat-free versions like hummus, carrot dip, beetroot dip, etc. Make your own so that you have a good supply on hand.
- Try eating healthy yogurts or probiotic ones in place of chocolate mousse or dairy fridge puddings. Eat the yogurts with your berries etc. - you can puree the berries and fold them through. If you want to sweeten them, use a little maple syrup rather than sugar, or a dash of vanilla extract. Unhealthy choc-urts are all right sometimes and for a break they don't always have to be low fat! Frozen yogurt made at home can be a great, healthy treat too.
- Indulge in fruit salad. It is ideal but be careful not to get the sugar syrup version if you're preferring the canned variety. The trick to a good fruit salad that excites the tastebuds is one that has fruits that you like and none that you don't. Easy done!
- Make a goji berry, dark chocolate, almond, and walnut trail mix. Don't eat too much at once but this is certainly an anti-oxidant and omega 3 rich mix! Another exciting mix is wasabi beans and goji berries - it packs a punch!
[edit] Tips
- Drink water frequently. Water helps keep you feeling a little fuller than having to munch on food all the time.
