A short story can be practically written about anything you want to. It is just finding the right words and using a bit of imagination.
[edit] Steps
- Determine what kind of a short story you want to write. Do you want the readers to cry, laugh, feel scared or feel embarrassed with you. What kind of a reaction are you expecting for your readers.Other ideas could be related to the following:
- moralistic--to teach a lesson
- for entertainment--just to tell an exciting tale
- to make us laugh
- to weave a fantasy and let us escape from reality
- to explore a certain character
- to explore a certain setting and how it affected people or events
- Know the type of reaction by looking around you or look at the small or big things that have happened in your life or somebody else's. Then choose one incident.
- your nephew/child's birthday,
- the first day at school or work,
- first crush,
- how you got a pet
- Take that incident and mold it to try to get the audience to react the way you want them to
[edit] Tips
- A short story takes place in a short period of time. It can be something that happened in one day to about a few months. Or a few months cut short.
[edit] Warnings
- it is easy to get carried away with the story so take it further than a day or a few months
