How to Forget an Argument with a Sibling

Just had an argument with a sibling and need to talk it over fast? Read on to find out how...

[edit] Steps

  1. Keep calm as you speak. Clearly say: "I'm sorry," even if you don't think you did anything wrong. This will make your sibling feel less guilty, as they're probably feeling the same as you.
  2. Shake hands or hug. Say sorry as you do so, and make sure to keep your voice quiet, and be discreet by doing this in a bedroom or quiet area, where you can talk things over properly.
  3. Explain what you did wrong, and that you feel bad about it. Say sorry again, and just say that you did wrong and that you won't do it again. Don't explain what you believe your sibling did wrong, as this will just cause another argument.
  4. Sit down and calmy think about what you, and only you, did wrong and how you can learn from it. Block out any other thoughts and just focus on what will make you a better sibling and person to be around.
  5. Keep calmy talking to your sibling, not about the argument, but about things you both enjoy (for example, football or a certain TV show). This will help prevent arguments, as your friendship becomes closer. If it's a much younger sibling, read the next few tips:
  6. If you shouted at a much younger sibling, don't feel guilty. They may avoid you for a while, or huddle away from you, but just stay calm about it. Buy him or her a small toy to show you're sorry, as younger siblings don't really apperciate it in words. So teach them to buy saying sorry politely, and asking them to say sorry too.
  7. Tell your parent/s that you're soprry for causing noise and upset in the house, and give them a quick hug or smile, as parents want you to show them respect, and that it was a one-off.
  8. Finally, try not argue again. It may be difficult if a sibling annoys you or shouts at you, but stay clam and don't be violent. Just back away and quietly say, "Please stop it," or "I'm Sorry."
