How to Generate Glass Cutting Pattern Using GNCutter

Every time when you cut a flat sheet of glass you probably puzzle over finding a way to cut all required pieces from it. This article shows how to generate a cutting pattern using GNCutter - the first optimization software which works on handheld devices and therefore you can bring it in your pocket wherever you need to cut a glass sheet.

  1. Run GNCutter on your handheld device.
  2. Tap on "New Project" button or select "Project" -> "New" in the main menu.

  3. Choose the measurement units: Inches or Centimeters.
  4. Select "Material guillotine cutting" calculation method on "Setup" tab.
  5. Tap on "Stock" tab.
  6. Specify a sheet (stock) width. Tap on "..." button on right side of the text box to use numeric input dialog that helps to enter numeric values and tap "Done" when you finish.
  7. Tap on "Stock is a sheet (has finite length)" checkbox.
  8. Specify a sheet (stock) length.
  9. Tap on "Parts" tab. It's the place where you specify the sizes of the pieces you need to cut.
  10. Tap on "New Part..." button. It brings the dialog to specify part sizes.
  11. Specify part's width and part's length in corresponding textbox.
  12. Tap on "OK" button on the bottom side. The dialog closes and the part appears in the list.
  13. Tap on "New Part..." button again to specify as many pieces as you need to cut.
  14. Tap on "Run" button or select "Project" -> "Calculate" in the main menu.
  15. Two additional tabs with calculation results appear and "Layout" tab displays the cutting pattern. Layout has two rulers that help you to measure the pieces locations and cuts you need to make. You can zoom-in and zoom-out using the toolbar buttons "+" and "-" to bring the layout closer or farther.
  16. Tap on "Report" tab to see how many sheets you need to cut all required pieces.
