How to Get Dried Sage
Sage is a "Salvia" genus herb/spice and considered in the mint family. It is used primarily in the preparation and cooking of Italian foods and fowl. There are many ways to obtain it.
[edit] Steps
- Visit the baking/cooking department of your local grocery store. Ground, rubbed, dry sage is usually packaged in small, shakable containers. Larger grocer outlets sometimes offer freshly cut sage and/or dried-on-the-stem sage in the produce department.
- Check out an organic farm in your area. They are an excellent source of cut (and sometimes dried) sage.
- Contact local gourmet food shops or restaurant supply locations, too.
- Grow and dry your own. (Plants are readily available at nurseries, or in the garden centers of locations such as Home Depot, Lowe's, Target, K-Mart.) See "Tips".
[edit] Tips
- Growing and nurturing your own herb garden is fun and rewarding, and you always have fresh herbs on hand. Dry your herbs in a dehydrator and store them in an airtight container to keep them aromatic and flavorful.
