How to Get Chewing Gum Out of Carpet or Floor Mats Using WD 40

It seems that everything is more expensive these days, including your carpet and the floor mats in your new vehicle. In this case it was the floor mats in my new truck.

[edit] Steps

  1. Get some WD-40 from a local store. The WD-40 "No Mess Pen" is easy to use.
  2. All you need is a clean rag and the WD-40
  3. Start at one side of the gum spot and work your way to the other rubbing in the same direction while applying the WD-40.
  4. As clumps of gum come up, remove them with the rag.
  5. When all gum is removed, wipe the area with the clean part of the rag.

[edit] Tips

  • The gum will not stick to the WD-40 so by putting some on the carpet the gum is released from the fibers and balls up where it can be removed. A light application of "Dawn" soap and water will remove any residue from the WD-40

[edit] Warnings

  • If you smoke, don't do it around WD-40 in a spray it becomes a blow torch.
