How to Get Free Health Care for Your Children Through Their School

Almost all elementary, junior high and high schools have some type of free or low cost health care. Why not embrace that privilege and ensure your child's health is protected?

[edit] Steps

  1. Go to your child's school and ask for a brochure for free or low cost health insurance.
  2. Determine if your child is eligible. Most elementary, junior high and high schools require the child to be under 19 to be eligible, but there may be other requirements as well.
  3. Find a clinic in your area. Particularly if you have a teen, these clinics can help you to figure out your total income, as well as help you to fill out the necessary forms.
  4. Send in the form. Make sure you have filled out everything completely, and return it to the proper person or agency. (Some forms have a self-addressed envelope attached).

[edit] Tips

  • It is a good idea to start early. Once your child is in his/her first year of school, it is probably a good time to start asking questions.

[edit] Warnings

  • Each income is set up differently, and determining exactly how much you make can be difficult. Also, take into account that the incomes listed on the form/sheet are only available for a certain amount of time, so be sure to read all of the fine print before you fill out or sign anything.
