How to Get Hamsters to Stop Fighting

They used to get along fine! What the heck happened? Here's a how-to article on reintroducing your hamsters and getting them to stop fighting with each other.

[edit] Steps

  1. Take your hamsters out of the cage and set them aside in a safe container separate from each other.
  2. Empty all the woodchips, shredded newspaper stuff, or any other cage liner from the bottom of the cage and throw it away. Clean the cage thoroughly with an enzyme cleaner.
  3. Put new cage lining at the bottom of the cage and put a piece of cardboard in the middle of the cage as a separator.
  4. Put your hamsters back in the cage with one on each side of the cardboard. Make sure they have their own food and water.
  5. Allow 24 hours of creating their own separate scents in their own areas.
  6. Remove cardboard and enjoy the happy reunion!

[edit] Warnings

  • Observe your hamsters for the first day after you have removed the cardboard! Make sure they're getting along before you leave them by themselves.

[edit] Things You'll Need

  • Enzyme Cleaner
  • Cardboard to create a divider in the cage
