Some options

  1. Communicate effectively about local issues for unity--or take sides--in your town if there are projects and public works that need attention and need arguing... be convincing, persuade and get consensus.
  2. Build unity for the easy to see kinds of objectives that call for a leader, like you...
  3. Be a fundraiser for a leader if you are not the speaker/leader type but can help get a charismatic leader known and financed to do advertising and public advancement of precious treasures of the people--the ideas that help the people.
  4. Start a bulletin or newsletter that would help get public concern focused on certain needs and wants.
  5. Make posters and put them up in lawns and post them where it is legal to do so.
  6. Call in to radio and TV stations to get publicity for a cause or for a crying need...
  7. Demonstrate or parade to draw attention from the media and politicians, etc.
  8. Visit door to door with people--not to gossip--to help get consensus (firm up opinion) on one or more issues in you town or county area.
  9. Take a survey to be successful for your local politician or yourself--you could hire a public relations company or just get volunteers and go door to door. See what principles and active-purposes before deciding which issues to support and what kind of changes are really the right idea! you want to express the will of the people but also to guide their concern to be fruitful and successful.
  10. Participate in Crime Watch which is an organization to let people known that they can work together to support each other and to keep an eye on suspicious activity...
  11. Have a neighborhood or block party get together in your/for your part of a street or area to get acquainted and to be open to the opinions and concerns of others. You can have some snacks and seating, chairs, benches or tables--including different learning centers/discussions with leaders, helpers to encourage people to stay and discuss issues.
  12. Be a political volunteer like an election night helper, or election day "goffer" (go far this and that--help at the party offices) observe and learn. Sometime well before elections contact the party or candidate that you support and volunteer to be a volunteer, if this suits your local interests.
    • You might receive instructions about some duties like cleaning up and sharing responsibilities in preparing for the effort. You would not interfere but only help the appointed and designated party authorities.
    • You should receive some identification like a letter of introduction for that candidate or party and the information about your duties and objectives.
  13. Participate in party meetings this is for the selection of party issues and workers for the next year for example. This if often setup to organize or plan and be available if needed at some level.
  14. Go to the local vote counting (tallying ballots): In many locales the voters can wait or come back to the polling place just before the poll closes on that election evening and go to the meeting to watch the vote counting, listen, talk and learn about the procedures and opportunities to get involved now or for next time.
  15. Give to the local nominees in many ways, as you may help in the many ways if people think you are smart or better yet wise, to raise money, donate, make posters, put up signs, wear and distribute stickers, talk, knock on doors, answer phone calls, make calls, be a hot shot delivery person (volunteer courier), etc.

Run for Office

  1. Consider running for some local elected office and get the determination and know that you have the good sense, can pick out the better ideas, maintain or rekindle your enthusiasm daily and be strong in your persistence to run past the finish line--don't flop after you cross the line--or forget it!
  2. Become a better communicator speaker/speech writer and practice on family and friends and then small public groups and move to larger responsibilities.
  3. Smile broadly and practice to overcome "fidgets", nervous ticks or mannerisms like repeatedly scratching your nose or ear, or straightening your clothes, staring or blinking your eyes too much, etc. Avoid stage fright all of which can look like lack of confidence or even rigidity caused by shear panic and fear in the public eye. No fear--smile--ignore the torpedoes, and mines. But overcome the storms, stay afloat and come back to fight on another day...
  4. Remove obstacles or roadblocks and hassles from the way others must go to be successful by being active in helping to find solutions to the needs of good outspoken persons with wisdom and enough craft to not be foolish or gullible who can help your cause. Maybe that person needs a sounding board or a place to let out the tensions. You can help...
  5. Decide whether you should gear up to run for political office if so you must register with city, county or school district authorities for the office that you want to run for, then organize with a chairperson and treasurer and turn file it with the proper authority that oversees the financing and spending--to avoid fraud or converting of funds to personal use--learn about financial reporting, keep accurate records of moneys received and exact ways and amount that were spent, and meet with interested people who can help or donate.
  6. Be involved in local one-on-one person to person--presenting yourself and you purposes and views to the voters, knocking on doors, registering new voters, phoning, conducting polls, assisting with or doing your own mailings.
  7. Get volunteers who support and vote for you and other people that you and the donors can support: with individual work and effort to assure them that you and they will reflect their values in the local politics.
  8. Don't break your promises or the promises of those you have pledged to support for instance just do not make promises for "changes" that are impossible because it is out of your control, could take too many years and too much money for your small town, or avoid things you actually can not explain very well or even understand yourself either. Then when elected don't just say: "Oh, it's hopeless at city hall, and we can't do anything." That could make you look weak and not worthy of your office. Be positive and idealistic, but be realistic by not going "all in on a bad wager or bet"...
  9. Live by what you believe, and say what you can reasonably prove to be true or accomplish knowing that you will be judged accordingly by the electorate if you are off the path. You and your ideals may continue losing influence by allowing inappropriate zoning or commercial developments in the neighborhoods and marketplace.
  10. Express your real concerns and work hard work with your supporters and making the right deals. When you're expressing your views and it involves other persons, then those individuals will change the area of influence around him or her. This will completely change the political and social climate of your locale one issue and one person at a time. One-on-one and in small groups or huge crowds as it may progress to the good of the public.
  11. Make a change that does not make others dependent on the government. Do not make people be controlled by the federal government as the American Indian reservations and corrections facilities who depend too much on and are run by distant and uninterested people who have really poor, regrettable results in everything they muddle through.
  12. Don't fail with bad government programs which crash because of governments' poor methods and unclear goals--not being well understood or appropriately planned. They are conducted and managed poorly and because they usually are run by very "uninterested bureaucrats" and lesser employees who just go through the motions to get a paycheck with little true concern so they do not accomplish much...
  13. Find the money trail... that guides the outcome but who really cares. Be one who cares. Be a little bit angry and then work to change the social/progressive nonsense that is almost worthless...

[edit] Tips

  • Sure, opponents will continue in their rigidity and argumentative ways against your good ideals. Instead of focusing on them; you must win the minds of more individuals in your community to then move forward regardless of the opposition. The influence of individuals can improve your home, state, nation and even for many decades (generations) to come for citizens' and your own families even to the great-grand kids.
  • Be confident--don't fear, even if the wrong person is elected as long as you are doing legal activities, are not being rebellious or obstructing others! Hopefully you are in a secure and safe political climate...
  • Be safe, keep secure papers in internal papers and documents such as minutes of meetings, etc. and shred unneeded ones thoroughly mix them into compost or scatter them among several trash bins--even shred and burn them or flush some tiny pieces (if that is legal).
  • If you have weak personal or confused and fighting party influence in your community, the government can be quite hostile to your values. Yet that hostile government does not mean the death of good influence from or through you!
  • Be on the right side community improvement? Change in your locale does not depend on just the ones who is elected mayor and commissioner. It depends on many people following good judgment, honesty, with integrity and their best ideals (and yours?).
  • You are in charge of building your own influence and improving in your area but your ideals must guide you. It is your ideals that empower you to be able to survive hostile government against the wrong kind of changes. You see it resistance movements against unfair taxes and against vice, fraud and treacherous (tricky) laws and regulations--never give up...
  • Your influence in politics can keep growing: each-person-gets-another--gets helpers, advocates and followers. That one gets one, while you get more. A political movement can and will keep growing even against the odds! Build a team, teach your ideals... form a league, join a party or community improvement group not just a club to just have fun... keep going for serious outcomes and enjoy it!
  • Have the kind of joy and pride in your abilities that comes from keeping on learning but mainly being dedicated to use what you learn!
  • Help the weak and guide the strong--they both need you to be a good leader! Good leaders are precious, rare jewels and warriors for the right causes without cruelty or unfairness...
  • Be a peacemaker (love your enemy) after your win by fairly overcoming them through legal, fair and just means! Never yield your integrity but be reasonable to fight another day.

[edit] Warnings

  • Don't expect very much of bureaucrats or self-serving politicians who may see you, and "the people" as mainly members of the unions, workforces, organizations, clubs to romance and promise things to receive support or get power and their own influence for their own selfish reasons
  • Tricky people are looking for opportunities to make money, while not pressing for "real improvements"--they just give handouts and favors so they can be reelected. Following such a selfish person is not going to change the core of your existence, but that wrong person can do harm to the people and your causes! Change sides if necessary, and/or tell the press and radio/TV media what you have as proof. You need proof.
  • You can only expect to receive what you deserve so work to make your own opportunities to improve the lots of the less fortunate and work the right plan!
  • The ultimate objective is to be self dependent not depending on higher levels of government, which can take as much as they give... try and try again.
  • Failure versus success: if people, who are worried, will humble themselves, admit that they need to learn and study--seek good ideals and turn from their wishful thinking ways, then they can continue in the face of adversity to accomplish great things though it takes 3, 5, 10, or 100 years... get started and let others nurture and grow it over time like a tree.
  • Branches depend on the tree and vice versa, plus we need good roots (the people) and rich soil (the local economy and workplace) with justice and to improve means of having educated and reasonably competent individuals.
  • You must educate the masses toward better techniques and your best ideals toward your ultimate victory for the good of all! No one is perfect, but keep following your best efforts and not just sitting on your ideals... maybe the thinker needs to get into action?
