How to Get Tailored Clothes in Bangkok
Tailoring clothes is a very fun experience, especially when prices are ideal and clothes turn out great. However, they're always a downside to every good thing, and that is why knowing how and where to tailor your clothes is a very important piece of knowledge before traveling to Bangkok!
[edit] Steps
- Research online. Where are the good places to go to try, ask prices, get some knowledge etc. This knowledge should also let you know how to choose good shirts and suits. For shirts, you need to judge shirts by three factors. One of them being the fabric itself. You do not want something so thin or see through. Secondly, the overall fit on your body. What you wanted should be what you achieve as you are coming for a tailoring experience. Lastly, Fusing. This is probably one of the most important factors in tailoring. If a shirt is not fused properly at the collars and cuff, you will get the "bubbling" effect. It is when your collars/cuff start to bubble and basically get ruined. Many tailors in Bangkok have this problem so make sure you know where the places which fuse their shirts well are.
- Part of researching online; know what you want and how you want it.
- Shortlist some shops that you want to visit. (Crown is one that is recommended constantly)
- Visit those shops and decide which one you like, judging by overall look, confidence (the way they talk to you, and of course, do not lie about "cashmere"), fabrics (woolen blend is a minimum), workmanship (check out their finished clothes), service.
- Choose your fabrics, get measured and choose style!
- Never pay the full balance right away! 50% is MORE than enough!
- Come back for minimum two fittings, three would be better. Here you can choose to see how your clothes fit and what else you want changed. Let them know exactly what you want here.
- Pay your balance at the end and pick up your clothes.
[edit] Tips
- Make sure you get the right fabric. There is no such thing as "Cashmere" in Bangkok for under $300 a suit.
- Burn the fabric to be sure it is wool.
- Come back for fittings. They are very important to get a well tailored suit.
