First of all stop sitting there and mourning. Do not think that he/she will come to you on your own. Most of the times, this friend of yours is actually an importance seeker. These people seek and receive importance from everyone but in return do not realise they have to return it.So, stop sitting there and mourning!! Get up and go sit with her. Try to get as many chances as possible to get close to her.Sit with her at lunch,ask her if she would like to go for a walk, etc. People might say something like,"Don't you think so and so is sticking to so and so?"Do not pay attention to this. The others are just jealous of you.
If this is not as affective , try dropping subtle hints like," So, who do you hang out with these days??I didn't even say a word to you today..we should hang out more often..What do you say??"
If possible trying talking it out with her. But do not do it more than once for he/she will think your desperate or something.
Do not actually stick to her that much. If you give her a call do the" I'm here but not actually here" trick. Basically, show her some attitude but not heavy attitude. For example if you call him/her the conversation will be something like this:You: Hi..Friend: Hi..You: So what's up??
etc etc..usually how your conversation goes on. Then after 15 minutes or so just say something like "Hey I gotta go, see ya!" Taht will make her feel like talking to you more.
Also try to get her a card or so just generally saying how much you like her...or just saying a thanks for everything she's done for you.
If she needs something to be done, say getting her bag packed or buying a book when she is really busy, try offering to do it instead.
Whatever you do: Do not say anything about her behind her back.Good or bad. For it might turn into something you didn't ever say. e.g. You," Don't you think so and so is sooooo cool??" It'll turn out to be< " Don't you think so and so is sooooo uncool?"

Try calling her everyday.
If she chose say gymnastics in P.E., you choose gymnastics as well. But do not let her know you chose it until you meat her in the gymn or whatever. Look surprised when you see her and say something like," Hey i never knew you like gymnastics" or something.
Make cute pet names for the two or three of you. For example if Samantha and Courtney are best friends keep the names like Santha and Courty. Or if you wanna go wild try something like Sugarplum Hotbum..ChocolateBar Superstar..Gummybear Hotflear..etc. For guys you do not need pet names.
Remember: A smile is such a funny thing it wrinkles up your face and when it's gone..you can never find it's secret hiding place!! SO smile when you see him or her.
If he or she cracks a joke do not just sit there and laugh like a lima bean...say something like,"SO RAD!!" or "I don't know what makes you so funny..but it REALLY works!!"
If anyone says anything about him or her...stick up for them.
