How to Get Your Horse to Trust You

Every horse owner wants their horse to love them, just as much as they love thier horse. Heres how.

[edit] Steps

  1. Whenever you see it, talk to it sweetly and stroke its neck, massage its neck (horses love that), hug it, just show it that you love it.
  2. Understand that you cant depend on your horse for everything. For example, don't try to jump a 4 ft jump out of the arena, and say to yourself "I know my horse would never do anything to hurt me. I know it will make it over this jump and it will keep me safe." Because something could happen, it might not go through.
  3. Make wise decisions that you know will not put you or your horse in danger.
  4. Try to visit it as much as possible.
  5. When you ride, always pat it to tell it its doing something right.
  6. Don't ride it every day.
  7. Do NOT get overly mad at it if it does something wrong, its learning.
  8. If you know you have a fault in your riding ability, dont ride your horse in that way so your fault could hurt the horse. For Example: if your one of those people who pull back really hard while jumping, dont jump your horse until your over that. i know a person, and they turned their horse crazy by doing that. Ride in a halter, or work on flat till your over it. Jumping that like can rip lips, and cause anxienty towards jumping, so dont get mad when horses get anxiety.
  9. If a horse has anxiety towards jumping, start with ground poles and work your way up, when they refuse or speed in out of nervousness, nock it down to a ground pole again and start over. its ok.
  10. Reward your horse.
  11. Make sure it knows that you love it.
  12. Be forgiving.
