Can't get your parent(s) to call you your nickname?

[edit] Steps

  1. Sit down with your parent(s).
  2. Tell them that what you are about to say is important, and not to be laughed at.
  3. Tell them to respect your opinion.
  4. Say "I want to be called "[nickname]" instead of [realname].

when friends come over have them call you your nickname and dont respond to anything besides that.

[edit] Tips

  • If they argue, don't argue back.
  • Use a gentle voice.
  • It is their final decision what to do, not yours. If you are 18 years old, you can legally get your name changed. Your parents may have spent some time finding a name for you, but may easily call you another name as well, such as your middle name.
  • If for some reason you're parents refuse to call you by your chosen nickname, you may want to try not answering them when they call you, until they use the name you requested. This may be the ignition of a potential arguement, so use your better judgement to decide.

[edit] Warnings

  • Be prepared for "But [realname] is your given name!" and other comments like that.
  • Your parents might be hurt that you don't want to use your real name because they probably spent a lot of time thinking about what name to give you.
  • be aware that parents can get mad at you if you dont respond to youre real name
