How to Get Your Punk Boyfriend a Good Birthday Present

If you have a punk boyfriend and you want to make sure he has the best birthday ever with his girl...read these tips!

[edit] Steps

  1. First of all, keep in mind that punk boyfriends don't expect much for their birthday! Don't stress - A kiss and a homemade birthday card is all you really need.
  2. Find out what kind of punk he is. These days, the term "punk" can mean almost anything. In music alone, there are many sub-genres. What exactly does he enjoy? Which bands does he like? How does he dress? Does he like black leather, piercings, Mohawks, or just plain t-shirts and jeans?
  3. Take stock of what he already has. No sense in giving someone a gift if he already has it.
  4. Check to see if any one of his favorite bands is playing in your area, near or around the time of his birthday. Punk shows are a great birthday present.
  5. Try to remember things that your boy friend has mentioned that he wanted to buy -- Cd's, posters, clothes or musical instruments/accessories -- and check if he already bought them. If not, then you can give him one (or a bunch) of those.
  6. Consider buying him a subscription to a magazine that interests him.
  7. Check out "Angry Young and Poor" on the web. They have a ton of punk merchandise from all genres. If you cant find something he would like, they have gift certificates so that he can pick out his own stuff.
  8. Ask his friends for suggestions.
  9. If he's into piercing or tattoo, get him a new tattoo or piercing he's been thinking about.

[edit] Tips

  • If you're not sure whether your boyfriend already has the present that you're considering, ask his friends, family members, or take a good look around when you're in his place; just don't make it too obvious.
  • A lot of punks are also politically active. Look into popular books, movies, and Cd's that relate to his political interest.

[edit] Warnings

  • If you're going to give him clothes, make sure that they will fit him. A lot of people go wrong in picking the correct size, even for people they're close to.
  • One person's interpretation of "punk" may not fit another person's interpretation...it's very much necessary to figure out his favorite bands, and his interests. Does he like old-school punk (Ramones, Sex Pistols, Richard Hell, The Adicts), Anarcho-punk(Subhumans, Crass, Rudimentary Peni, Witch Hunt), Crust Punk(Aus-Rotten, Toxic Narcotic, F-Minus, Antischism), Hardcore Punk(Dead Kennedys, Circle Jerks, Black Flag, Husker Du), harDCore(Minor Threat, Void, Fugazi, Scream), Skacore(Leftover Crack/Choking Victim, Operation Ivy, Suicide Machines, Voodoo Glow Skulls), or Thrash Punk(DRI, Suicidal Tendencies, Cro-Mags, MDC)

[edit] Things You'll Need

  • A punk boyfriend (obviously)
  • Courage to say "I love you"
  • A wonderful kiss awaiting for your beloved.
  • That's it!
