How to Get Your Teen to Do Chores Around the House

Getting your teen to do chores around the house can be a dirty task. You may of tried to start when your teen is younger but you had no luck. You can accomplish this by using appropriate chores, consequences and rewards can accomplish this, here is how.

[edit] Steps

  1. Teach your teen about cleanliness and cutter. Cleaning will become a habit or routine to them.
  2. Always try to praise your teen. This builds self-esteem and promotes a better feeling about helping out.
  3. Make sure your teen sees you doing chores too. Examples are one of the best forms of teaching. If your teen sees you cleaning up and doing chores that they are expected to do they will be more interested in doing the work too.
  4. Be specific and demonstrate. Tell your teen exactly what you want done. One example would be "I would like you to please pick up your dirty clothes and then make your bed"
  5. Be aware of your punishments because not all of them work.
  6. Reward your teen in loving ways. You know what will work best for your teen. One example would be "When you finish making your bed I will let you watch TV for one hour".

[edit] Tips

  • Don't use bribery as rewards because it can lead to whining and under-cooperativeness if it is overused and your teen will always expect something whether they do the right things or not.
