How to Get a Bank Job
Working at a bank is a terrific career choice. Besides keeping warm in the cold winters, and cool in hot summers, state banking regulations often have a positive effect on salaries and working conditions.
[edit] Steps
- Get your resume in order. Banks are looking for articulate people who are very organized and good with numbers. Any kind of accounting or organizational experience (such as a being a file clerk) should stand out on your resume.
- Find a good list of banks in your area.
- Call the banks on your list, one at a time, and ask for human resources. Get somebody on the phone who handles that and ask them for the name and address of the person to mail your resume to.
- If you don't get an interview or two by the time you call through the list (which would be surprising) mail or fax your resume to each bank with along with a good strong cover letter.
- Three weeks after you mail your resume, call through the list again. This time, ask for correct person, whom you discovered in step 3.
- This SHOULD get you some interviews. Handle them well and take the first offer!
[edit] Tips
- Don't worry about who is hiring at the moment. It's more important to find a solid bank that is geographically desirable.
- Sales experience is a huge plus. Play up any sales experience you may have.
- Be very polite but also professional-sounding and confident on the phone.
- Dress up for the interview. This is important! Don't wear bank-teller looking clothes; break out your best suit!
- Follow up the interview by mailing a thank-you letter (or card) to the person who interviewed you, no later than the next day.
[edit] Warnings
- Be truthful on your resume - but do rearrange it to highlight organizational experience and skills.
