If you have a horse who is in need of a trimmer middle, needs to get ready for a show, or you just want him to be healthier, keep reading!
[edit] Steps
- Invest in healthier foods. If you buy bagged grains, go for a healthier brand. Ask the shop owner what kind of brand would benefit your horse in the weight loss catagory. Also, if you frequently give your horse alfalfa bales, lower the amount you give him. Alfalfa has a big affect on a horse's weight.
- Avoid Junk-food. If you feed your pony treats, cut back. Give him a carrot a day instead. This is a more healthy alternative.
- Start an exercise regime. Just like you would yourself, work your horse up to a daily jog. Start with a 30 minute walk, start trotting, and try a 10 minute canter. If you have an arena, have him jog around with you on the lunge. When you work up to it, get him to sweat a little. Do not do this immediately after he's eaten. He can get colic, so let him digest his meals before you take him out.
- Ask a vet. Remember to call the vet and ask how much to feed him when he is in weight loss mode. Too little food with lots of workouts can lead to exhaustion and poor health. Remember to invest in healthy foods!
