  1. Meet the boss of the newspaper. Call the office for an interview with the boss or meet with the boss yourself. In order to get the job, you have to set up a meeting with person in charge.
  2. You have to know the basics of becoming a photographer:
    • Be creative. Being creative is required for all fields, but in photography, it is the most vital. You have to be able to concoct new ideas and new thoughts. The people who you want to work for expect creativity and absolute thought.
    • Read newsletters and magazines that talk about news and get to know the field. While you read, look at the photos that you see of the news they are talking about. Also, read newspapers and scan on the web. Take summer courses that deal with photography and camera movement. These will help you tremendously with the camera operating and the photography. Also take photojournalist classes that are available to you.
    • Photographers should have the three keys: originality, competent vision and excellent hand-eye coordination. These are super important for a photographer to have. You have to have the crafts of the eyes, hands, mind and thought. They are super important.
  3. Practice. Practice makes perfect. Take your camera and take pictures of people, things and places you think are interesting. This will help you will your vision, imagination and coordination.

  • Have a back-up plan. Sometimes, things don't go as planned and you might not get the job. If you don't get the job, that's okay. There are plenty of others you can make.
  • Advance your services. If anyone asks you to take a picture of them, go for it.
  • Also, have another job while you are working as a photographer/becoming a photographer.
