How to Get out of Your Comfort Zone

Tired of the mundane, day to day activity, and want to do something a little more different, yet not sure how? Don't worry, just try it a step at a time to get out of your comfortable couch to an exciting life.

[edit] Steps

  1. Do something a little different each day, which could be as simple as:

    • Saying hi to a stranger when you're waiting for the bus/train/getting picked up/in a queue.
    • Joining a local country club, interest group, short/long courses
    • Taking a slightly different route to work, or getting off an stop early to walk a bit to work or home or around the block.
    • Deciding to compliment someone each day, genuinely.
  2. Set a goal for yourself to target.
  3. Evaluate or reflect on how you went for the day. Reward yourself after you've achieved your target, or if you didn't meet your daily target, find out how you can do something a little different for tomorrow to improve.
  4. Persevere with this action. A little something each day goes a long way.

[edit] Tips

  • Have an open minded attitude towards new things. Fear is natural for the unknown, but we have to bear it in mind and allow ourselves to learn new things.
  • Meeting new people in some way or other helps to learn about others, and also to perhaps pull you into different types of activity you wouldn't normally have done.
  • Be proactive. This helps you get into action.

[edit] Warnings

  • Be wary of who and where you meet the new people. There are all sorts of people out there, where you may not be sure of their underlying motive. You can group up with some of your friends for safety in meeting new friends. Also, the more the merrier!
  • Safety is utter most priority. If you've seriously thought through and weighed the consequences of the activity (let's say, in extreme sports, or meeting a complete stranger alone at night), take as much safety precautions as possible, or choose to say "no" if it is not worth the risk.
