New to Monster Hunter Freedom 2? Need a weapon that suits you best? Then read on.

[edit] Steps

  1. Know that there are good points and bad points to every weapon

    .
    • First, lets cover swords. Swords are a good weapon to begin with if your new to this game. They have good combos, ability to guard, evading is good too, and they are pretty easy to craft and improve. The only problems are that they are pretty weak, the guard knocks you back, and the evading is hard to get used to. Don't think of it as a newbie weapon though, once you master it you'll discover that it is a very good weapon, that is if you stick with it.
    • Now, let's move on to dual blades. Wanna get rid of that shield and put another sword in that hand? Dual blades are quick weapons, have better combos than a sword, and an ability called demonization which allows you to use massive combos on monsters. But your stamina will decrease quite quickly, other problems include: that it loses sharpness quickly, not that much stronger than a sword, and it has no guard. But when you can move this fast, why bother blocking? You can just evade a wyvern attack,if you become really good.
    • Okay, lets talk about lances. A lance is one of my favorite weapons. Lances are long pointed weapons. They have good reach, a guard that won't break its stance and a charging attack that is good for running through a group of enemies or attacking a wyvern. But I think some people may complain that its too slow, combos are too simple, moves slowly when you use it, and its evades are too close. But a lance is a balanced weapon. Get a Power juice and keep your guard up and it won't break. Or use the charging attack when you think you are gonna lose, the other way and RUN!!!
    • The gunlance is a pretty powerful weapon. The gunlance is a melee weapon and a gun combined. But lets talk about the bad stuff first: it's slow, the weight of the weapon keeps you from evading like the lance, and you could shatter the blade if you use the shelling too often. On the other hand, the gunlance is a pretty good combo executor you can stab three times then shoot like crazy after. It also has a very powerful attack called wyverns fire that can blow a boulder to pieces. Which is cool. But has to cool off over time and you'll move pretty slow.
    • The Hammer is a pretty tough weapon to master. The hammer is one of the most powerful weapons in the game, if you know how to use it. But a good thing is that you can run with it, it has charge attacks, and you can stun monsters by hitting it on the head. It has drawbacks too though: no guard, hard combos just using the attack buttons, and I think it uses its sharpness up fast. Those who use a hammer should put defence before offense. Hit the monster when u see an opening
    • The hunt horn is like a giant instrument you can play it,but when you string certain notes(example:White then White for self improvement it will make you move faster for a limited time)together. When it comes to melee the horn rivals the hammer, smash the beast on the head to stun it, but the horn is mainly used for the abilities the melodies can give you. You'll be open for awhile so time when to play the notes just right,or get a friend to help you.
    • Greatswords are my favorite weapons. One of the most powerful weapons.greatswords have long range, combos that you can kepp linking together, and a very powerful charge attack when fully charged. But like in all weapons there are drawbacks.Greatswords leave u open for a bit after each attack, their sharpness drops when u block, and u move slow. When you have a really strong greatsword u can probably kill a Velocidrome in like two charged strikes.
    • Longswords are "refinements" of the greatswords.they are faster, you can run with it,you can continue to link combos like the greatsword, and it has a thing called the spirit gauge(SP).I'll explain more about the SP in the tips section. As in all weapons there are bads to this weapon, there is no guard ability, and not really as powerful.this weapon is a blend of speed and power but no defense so time your movements carefully when fighting a Wyvern.
    • Moving on to the bowguns. There are 2 types of bowguns; Light and Heavy.Light bowguns:you can run with them they fre faster have more accuracy than H.bowgun u can equip a long barrel or a silencer on to it too. the key to mastering them is ammo selection. Now, heavy bowguns are alot more powerful than L.bowguns,u can equip a shield on them or a large barrel.but when u use a H.bowgun u won't be able run.The key to using a H.bowgun is proper range, sometimes long range isnt always best thats what the shield is for. There are different ammo types for the bowguns(pellet, normal, pierce etc).
    • Finally there is one last weapon. The bow.the bow is a good long range weapon. There are three different shot types different to each bow;rapid, scatter, and pierce. There are also coatings for your arrows that will give them different effects,Power, poison, paralisis, and sleep coatings.

[edit] Tips

  • Get lots of whetstones when you are using a greatsword, dual blades or hammers. They tend to lose there sharpness quickly like i said above
  • The spirit gauge will fill up as u keep battering your opponent when the gauge is full your sword is supremely sharp when you press the "R" button u can execute a spirit slash, keep pressing another 2 times and you did a spirit combo
  • For those of u beginers who cant kill a wyvern. For greatsword users go right under the wyvern and make sure it cant hit you. Then give the beating of its life.Lance users hold block and strike while ur blocking,To replenish ur stamina walk around in a circle but make sure you are ready for the next attack when it comes.
