How to Give Yourself a Makeover
Got a big date coming up, or just want to make yourself feel more beautiful for a day? Follow these instructions to give yourself a makeover from head to toe.
[edit] Steps
- Take care of your skin: Your skin is really important. If you don't have a face wash or a deep cleanser, get some!
- If you have severe acne, see a dermatologist.
- If you have gym class at school remember to wash your face afterward to prevent pimples.
- If you do not want spots then wash your face 2 times a day and eat healthy.
- Focus on your clothes: Go to your favorite stores. If you want to get an original look for less, try discount stores or thrift shops. They have some really cool clothing.
- You can also put the things you already own together in new ways.
- As a teenager, though, a good pair of jeans are essential and go with everything.
- Bring a friend with you to help you find clothing that flatters your body type.
- Find a place to put your money: Always carry around money in a little handbag, a pocket or purse-- you never know when you'll need it.
- Be an advocate for your health: Make sure you're at a weight that you are comfortable with. Check your [BMI] to see if you are overweight or underweight - but just use that number as a guide if you think you need to lose or gain weight.
- Make sure to eat right too! This means eating lots of fruit and vegetables and avoiding red meat, junk food and absolutely anything found at fast food places (and sit down restaurants).
- You need to exercise everyday - do at least 20 sit-ups in the morning and the same amount at night. Go running every other day, this is a great aerobic workout that really works! When it comes to the intensity of your work-outs, you should be able to talk, but not sing.
- Other great aerobic exercises are; biking, swimming, even walking!
- If you don't want to leave your house, go to a thrift store - they have tons of old workout tapes!
- On off days, do some other form of cross training. Exercising every single day can add up to sore knees and shins!
- Over-exercising or under-eating is a really, really bad idea. You want to be able to control your exercise and your eating, not have them control you. If you are *actually* overweight (make sure that you really are--a lot of people think that they are fat when they are actually at a healthy weight), one way to lose weight is to exercise every other day. If you work out every day your muscles will get used to the workout and keep your weight level rather than tone and metabolize fat.
- Drink up to 8 glasses of water a day! This will get you into shape faster.
- If you drink soda let it go, studies show soda as well as diet are bad for you. Women gain 12 pounds (that's 43,000 extra calories you gain each year!)
- Know that your mirror and your scale are your worst enemy. Muscle mass 4 times as dense as fat but takes up 1/4 of the space fat does. To put it simple, muscles make you heavier, but fat takes up more room. For those who have dealt with being over weight as you start to lose weight your mind will play tricks on you predominantly in your mirror.
- If you are losing weight with proper aerobics and muscle toning you should feel less fat when you grasp at yourself, skin should feel tighter and you should feel lighter. #* Do not forget the women you see on TV are not 'real women'. Only in the last 60 years has the fashion industry changed over to androgynous meaning the mixing of male and female characteristics. Love yourself for who you are. Remember, always ask a doctor before you go on any diet, no matter what the diet is.
- Experiment with your hairstyle : Try something different with your hair - don't do the same thing everyday. If your hair is curly/wavy, straighten it.
- If it's straight normally, then curl or crimp it! Experiment.
- Go to an upscale salon for a consultation if you're not sure what to do with your hair.
- Cutting your hair short makes you look younger, but it CAN make you look too young.
- You could also highlight your hair (highlight your hair a shade lighter than your natural hair color or dark blue if you have jet black hair), or use products like volumizing mousse to add body (or getting layers), put your hair up (this makes the face look longer and higher), etc.
- Buy clips and headbands for more variety.
- Look in magazines for the new "it" look that can be easily changed, since styles often change.
- Get plenty of sleep : At least 8 hours a night is the amount you need for decent beauty sleep. Make sure you don't sleep too much.. 17 hours of sleep is just as bad as 4.
- Wear some makeup : The whole point of makeup is to lightly put it on, and for it to look like you're not wearing any.
- Go to an upscale makeup counter at the mall - you don't need to buy their products, but they can help you with choosing makeup that works best for you.
- If you want, before a special event, get one of their makeovers. You'll pay a lot, but it's better than buying ALL the products they let you test! 3
- Don't smother yourself in makeup, and right when you get home from school, wash it off quickly so you can let your face breathe!
- All you really need is eyeshadow, lip-gloss and mascara or if you have blemishes touch them up with a thin layer of foundation and/or concealler. Also a little eyeliner will make your lashes look fuller and will make your eyes pop!
- If you have a round face, use blush on the sides to make your face appear thinner. A little cheek gel adds color and shine to your face and makes a huge difference.
- Do your nails : Get French tips and make sure your nails are always trimmed and clean. You could either go to a nail salon or do this at home. if it's summer or spring, try getting a pedicure!
- Try to smile : White teeth are great. Try a tooth whitener if you think your teeth could be whiter, but beware of using them too much, as they contain an acid that eats away at the top layer of your teeth to get to the whiter layers underneath.
- Think about accessories : Make sure that your bag that you carrying with you isn't "over the top" or too bright. It should be just like you.
- Also, your jewelry should be light and glittery, but not too eye-catching. It's okay to buy really cheap plastic jewelry (but beware, they can turn your skin green if you are allergic!).
- Try to avoid wearing too much jewelry.
- Hair clips or scarves can also add a personal touch to your look.
- If you like to stand in the limelight, wear something bright.
- If you don't like too much attention, try wearing darker colors, i.e. navy blue.
[edit] Tips
- Use a nice smelling body lotion to moisturize your skin.
- Face masks are good every so often to cleanse pores. If you don't have face mask then use 1/2 a mashed up banana and 2 tbsp of honey. Also beware of the cheap face masks if you have sensitive skin - they can burn and itch causing an unattractive red rash.
- Fruits and Vegetables! If you are healthy on the inside, you will glow on the outside.
- Scent. If you have a big problem with sweat and normal deodorants don't work, try drysol or certain-dri. You could also use a nice perfume, but be sure you're not just covering up the odor. Also, use a antibacterial soap such as Dial, this takes away the odor from sweat. Be sure to shower every single day whether you have bad B.O. or not. ( if you have dry skin as it is, DO NOT shower everyday as this will only worsen the situation).
- Buy one really durable purse, either black or white so it goes with everything. Get really bold, chunky necklaces and bangles. Bangles and long layered necklaces are so hot this season that you will find them anywhere. Flip flops go with practically anything. Jellies are totally coming back in style now too. But get from a place where they will LAST.
- You could use smoker's toothpaste even if you aren't a smoker, since it's good at removing stains on teeth.
- On that note, don't smoke. If you do smoke, quit. If you don't smoke, keep it that way.
- Improve your posture. Stand up straight and tuck in your tummy. It makes you look slimmer and more confident. If you can't suck in your tummy for long, try a girdle. It may take you forever to find one, but it's worth it. However, please remember: being skinny is not the key to happiness. Many people think it is, then ruin their lives(becoming unhappy) to get thin.
- Get into a daily routine every night. Shower using a quality shampoo and conditioner that's good for your hair, as well as a loofa and moisturizing bodywash. Once out of the shower, moisturize with body lotion. Use a cleanser on your face followed by face moisturizer.
- Ask others' opinions on your appearance. Ask someone that is going to be honest about things that would make you more attractive, like a trustworthy friend or family member. Be ready for an honest opinion, and don't get mad if you don't like what you hear.
- Don't completely transform yourself from one thing to another, do it gradually and subtly. For instance, instead of walking through school on the first day wearing a mini skirt, high heels, chunky colorful jewelry, huge hoop earrings and a tiny belly shirt, try just doing something like jeans and heels, maybe a few bangles.
- Wax your eyebrows, underarms, and wherever else you have cumbersome, unwanted hair. It's best to go to a salon because it's hard to wax areas yourself. If you have dark upper lip hairs, try bleaching them. You can buy a cheap bleaching kit at any drugstore. But if you go into the sun with bleached hair, the sun makes them shiny and they will be noticeable as you walk/move.
- If you have over-tweezed your eyebrows, fill them in using an angled brush and a powder the same colour as your natural hair colour (or one shade lighter).
- Use an eyelash curler, followed by clear mascara. Then add a couple layers of black mascara. This will give your eyelashes good length, volume and texture. You will look gorgeous with longer, dark, mysterious, sexy, exciting eyelashes.
- Choose colors that go with your complexion, eye color, and hair color. yellow/orange tones=warm, blue/red=cool, or both warm and cool shades or shades in between for neutral. Go Here to find out more.
- Many fast-food restaurants offer many healthy choices. If you do choose to eat out, there are salads and other healthy choices on the menu.
- Avoid any type of meat when you eat at fast food restaurants. McD's etc never have 'healthy' meat, even Wendy's who say they are never frozen. Cows are killed in wrong ways which result oftentimes with urine leaking into the meat.
- Do regular exercise. And if you lose some weight, don't lose control and go back to old habits.
- Be confident in yourself and your look.
- If you want, use a magazine with looks that you like for some direction.
[edit] Warnings
- Don't change for anyone else, only change if YOU want to.
