Have an inspiration. Grab some magazines, watch TV, browse the internet, etc. Find clothing styles you like, haircuts you like, music you like, lifestyles you like, whatever. Make a collage, a list, or a checklist of what you need!
Get your hair done how you want. Bring in a totally cute haircut from a magazine or online or do it how YOU want it done, at home. Feel free to really change your look, or only go for a small change. You don't have to dye your hair or get it all chopped off to have a new look. Simply parting it a different way can actually be very effective. Don't be afraid to try new things!
If you wear glasses or contacts, update your look. Go from glasses to contacts or contacts to glasses. With contacts, you can even change the color of your eyes.
Buy some clothes to match the inspiration from step 1. It's good to shop my outfit, but incorporate some of the things you already have!
Accessorize. Again, you don't have to buy an extremely expensive designer bag, just buy purses/jewelry of good quality that you can wear over and over again.
Wear makeup, but not too much. A foundation, blush, mascara, eyeshadow, and lipgloss is plenty! Just find what works for you and use it.
Check out some really cool magazines check whats in and whats out. Try to find an outfit that reflects your personality and wear accessories, really cute ones. Particularly bright ones so that people will notice you!

Be hygienic! It's impossible to stress this enough. Carry hand sanitizer, shower daily, brush and floss twice a day, use deodorant, use breath mints (or minty gum). Spritz a light body spray on.
In your purse, put in a wallet with money in it, gum, lipgloss, eyeliner, mascara, a mini bottle of hairspray, hair ties, a mini hairbrush, a cute cell phone, and your MP3 player
