An iPod is a portable music device that allows you to listen to music without carrying around your CD player.

[edit] Steps

  1. Find your iPod. It could be in your pocket or wherever you put your iPod. Make sure it is charged and that there are no software or hardware issues.
  2. Take the iPod off of "hold" if you use this feature. You will know whether or not the iPod is on hold if the space near the silver hold switch on the top of the iPod is bright orange.
  3. Press the center button once to turn on the iPod. If you are using a shuffle, slide the switch at the top or back. If you have an iPod touch or iPhone, hold down the oval button at the top.
  4. Start from the default iPod Menu and use your navigation wheel to scroll to the "Music" option. Select this option by pressing the button in the center of your iPod.
  5. Observe the new choices under "Music". The iPod organizes your music alphabetically by artist, album and song. There are also separate sections for playlists (with the top 25 most listened to songs as one of the defaults) and podcasts.
  6. Scroll down to the menu option you want to use and click the center button. If you go by artist, you can either select the song by album or by going to a list of all the songs by the artist. If you go by song, songs will be listed alphabetically. If you go by album, you'll find an alphabetical list of album titles. Keep scrolling and until you arrive at the song you want (but don't push the button yet).
  7. Make sure that the headphones/earbuds are connected to your iPod. You have to plug the headphones into a headphone jack. Put on the headphones/earbuds. Consult your manual, as different models of iPods place the headphone jacks in different locations.
  8. Click on the song that you want to start listening to. The iPod will keep going down the playlist until you have listened to all of the songs in that particular playlist.
  9. Use your scroll wheel to adjust the volume on your iPod. Turn it clockwise to turn the volume up and counter-clockwise to turn it down.
  10. Rate songs by clicking the button until you see five dots. You can turn the dots into star ratings by moving the scroll wheel on your iPod.
  11. Skip forward/backward by using the buttons on the navigation wheel or by clicking the button in the middle of the iPod when you have your song up until you see a square bar with a diamond on it. Move the diamond using your navigation wheel to go forward or backward in the song.
  12. Hold down the "pause" button for three seconds and the iPod should turn off.
  13. Put iPod in a safe place where it will not get broken.

[edit] Tips

  • Press "menu" to go back to the screen that you were at before.
  • Do not drop your iPod because it will probably damage it in some way or another.
  • Buy an iPod case to keep your iPod from getting scratched.
  • You can make playlists for your iPod using your iTunes software.
  • The iPod wheel is triggered by small burst of electricity. This means you will not be able to adjust the volume if you have on gloves or mittens. Only with bare skin.

[edit] Warnings

  • If your iPod becomes stuck you will need to reset the iPod. Most of the time a song will be playing, but the seconds do not progress and no song can be heard.
  • You may want to consider getting headphones instead of earbuds, since studies have said that earbuds may damage your ears.
  • Do not listen to your iPod at full volume; it could potentially damage your hearing or even make you go deaf.
  • Do not illegally download music or the RIAA could be after you pretty darn quick.
  • Do not drop your iHome or iPod speakers while the iPod is plugged in; it will mess up the USB plug on the iPod and you will have trouble charging it.
