How to Log in to wikiHow Using an OpenID Account

Are you tired of having to remember the password to several different sites? It's possible to login to wikiHow using account credentials from other websites that support the OpenID standard (such as AOL, Yahoo! and Wikitravel).

If you already have an existing account at a site that supports OpenID see How to Merge Existing OpenID Accounts with your wikiHow Account.

[edit] Steps

  1. Go to the OpenID login page for the OpenID verification process.
  2. Enter in your OpenID identifier to login.
    • For users from other Mediawiki sites that support OpenID, such as wikitravel, it will be the address of your userpage, such as:
      http://wikitravel.org/en/User:Yourusername
    • If logging on to other OpenID sites with your wikiHow account enter this UserID:
      http://www.wikihow.com/User:Yourusername
    • For AOL or AIM users, use the URL
      http://openid.aol.com/yourscreenname
where yourscreenname is your username, with no spaces and all lower-case characters.
    • Yahoo! users should register with idproxy.net to use their Yahoo! account as an OpenID.
    • Livejournal users should use the address of their livejournal (e.g. http://johndoe.livejournal.com)
  3. You will arrive at the OpenID page for your server. You will be asked to confirm to share your data with wikihow.com and you can provide which information will be shared. Some options are:
    • Nickname: which is your username
    • E-mail address: The e-mail address you use on your account
    • Full-name: your full-name, if you have provided one
    • Language: Your preferred language
  4. Select your desired options and click "Ok"
  5. You may be prompted to provide wikihow.com a new username, if the your username has already been taken on wikihow.com. E.g., if you're John on wikitravel.org, chances are there's already another John at wikihow.com, you will have to choose a different username to log in with at wikihow.com.
  6. type in a user name and a password.

[edit] Tips

  • You can similarly use your wikiHow credentials on other sites that support OpenID by registering with the URL of your user page here at wikiHow.
  • If you only plan on providing updated user information on one site, put a short note on your other profile pages saying that more information can be found at the page you keep updated.
