How to Look Preppy for School

There are several ways to look preppy, but there are some additional things you can do while you're in school to be even more of a prep.

[edit] Steps

  1. Get good grades. The best way to look preppy is to be seen at a prep school. But, this isn't quite practical for everyone. So at the very least, act like a prep school student--aim for a prestigious college.

Aim high for the Ivy league scholarship if possible.

    • Get all your work done and any extra credit as well. Try to get into Honors/AP classes. Be the highest score on certain tests.
    • Join extracurricular activities. Examples-Tennis, debate, golf, track, etc. Avoid bowling and football.
    • Stay out of trouble (no detention nor Saturday school).
    • Give teachers respect. Don't talk in class. Ask them if they need help passing out papers, etc,
  2. Learn how to look like a prep. If you're a girl, read up on how to Be a Preppy Girl. If you're a guy, do your homework on how to Be a Preppy Guy.
  3. Straighten up between classes. Make sure you look neat and clean. Comb and fix your hair, brush your teeth or use mouthwash, straighten your clothes, and keep yourself presentable at all times.
  4. Stay organized. If you have a locker, keep it clean and uncluttered. The same goes for your book bag, which should be well-stocked and clean. Make sure your desk is tidy, even if you're only sitting there for an hour. Think about it: no one can look preppy if they act like a slob!
  5. Keep away from drama. While everyone has their social dilemmas, don't get caught up in arguments, fights, or making fun of anyone. Preps are expected to be more sophisticated than that.<<---Don't sink to their level
  6. Don't gossip or talk about other people and don't think that other people are less then you just because they are not preps. True class is being kind not snobby or rude.

[edit] Tips

  • Develop high goals and standards for yourself. Always try your hardest but if you need help ask someone.
  • Don't let pressure stress you out. If you feel like life is weighing you down-exercise hard (run) and call friends. Talk it out or at least write it down. Getting it out is what is important.
  • Avoid loud talking, dirty jokes in front of girls/women, and aggressive/obnoxious behavior in public.
  • Always be a gentleman/lady-open doors, carry books or packages, say please and thank you, etc.
  • Develop excellent social skills such as looking people in the eye and smiling, good handshake, conversational
  • insights-ask questions, most people love to talk about themselves.
  • Join a golf club as a caddy
