How to Look for a Summer Musical

Does your district do a summer musical but your not sure how to look for practice? Well with a couple of tricks you'll fit right in but look amazing.

[edit] Steps

  1. Wear cool clothing. In the summer, cute tanks and cloth shorts are perfect. Sweats and yoga pants are good since it'll probably be air conditioned. Listen to the directors about the dress code, if they say no Cami's then don't wear Cami's. It's better to bend the rules by wearing a thinner strapped tank than outright not listening.
  2. Proper shoes are important. Flip-flops are a big no. Character shoes are great since you'll have to get used to dancing in a certain kind of shoe. If it's a tap-dancing musical, ask what kind you'll need (some plays need taps without the metal clacking part, which you can find at dance stores or have removed). Whatever the show, ask the person in charge of dance or costumes what you will need. Wearing a pair of chucks on the first day is a good idea.
  3. Try to keep your hair out of your face since you'll have to move around other people, plus sets, plus props. Pulling it into a pony tail can seem boring so pull it up a little higher so it's bouncy and tie a colorful ribbon in a bow around it. A messy bun or a half pony tail are also cute ideas. If you want to keep your hair down, try to clip the front back so you can see everything thats going on on stage.
  4. Keep your makeup light during practice. Foundation or tinted moisturizer, mascara, and gloss are all you really need. A thin line of eyeliner is good too.
  5. A light tan is always cute so in the afternoon (on your off days, after or before practice) put on some sun block (sun burn sucks since people will bump into you on stage sometimes) and lay out. A strapless is a good idea so you won't have tan lines that can be seen on your costume.

[edit] Tips

  • Being a little goofy is fine, but don't outright be silly on stage.
  • Being friendly to everyone is a good idea since nobody likes a snobby lead or a know it all company member.
  • Be helpful backstage and try and keep everyone quite. If stage crew asks for help, do what you can. And keep the little kids out of the way of moving sets since they could really get hurt.
  • Dress how you feel comfortable. If you don't want to wear shorts then wear sweats. if you get to hot in sweats try yoga pants
  • Please for the love of god, wear deodorant

[edit] Warnings

  • Don't try to be something your not. If you aren't a great dancer, don't act like you take classes and are amazing.
  • Don't try out for the leading role if you've never been in a play before.
