People often have issues with water weight or bloating. Here are a few tips to target those areas. You may notice some weight loss but the loss is temporary and will return after re-hydration. This is a common trick used when you must fit into that special outfit and it's just a tad too tight.

[edit] Steps

  1. Visit your local sporting good store and purchase a neoprene waist belt. These often have velcro closures and wrap around the waist. There is fabric on one side and a rubberized side that fits closest to the body.
  2. Improvise. If you don't have time or can't find a neoprene belt you can substitute plastic wrap sold in the food storage section of your local grocery store.
  3. Wrap the belt or plastic wrap around your waist. The belt fastens but you may need to make several wraps with the plastic wrap to get the coverage and insulating necessary.
    • Don't wrap so tight you can't move or breathe.
    • Keep a pair of safety scissors (blunt ended scissiors) handy if you need to cut the plastic wrap to remove it. Ideally you can find the stopping point and unwrap but you may need to cut it. Use caution and don't cut yourself or stab yourself with the scissors. Never use a knife.
  4. Use plastic wrap around upper arms, calves or smaller areas if you need to treat multiple areas of the body.
  5. Wear the wraps while you're at home, doing house work, or even while you sleep.
  6. Be aware of your body temperature. It may be tempting to go for a jog but that can lead to heat exhaustion, heat cramping, dehydration or heat stroke. Never overexert yourself when wrapping.
  7. Limit your fluid and sodium (salt) intake. This doesn't mean cutting fluid out all together, just make wise fluid choices, and don't consume too much.
    • Avoid alcohol
  8. Remember the goal is to sweat out the excess fluids. You will become hot and uncomfortable so turning the air conditioner on high will reverse the results. At the same time, you don't want to become too hot. Keep the temperature no hotter than 80 degrees Farenheit.
  9. Wear the waist belt under clothes if you can do so comfortably during the day. Office jobs or jobs with limited movement can tolerate the waist belt.
  10. Remove the belt if you become too hot, it's too restrictive or you become uncomfortable.
    • Keep a clean one with you and reapply it later in the day.
  11. Avoid using Saran Wrap on your arms and calves while out unless you are wearing a pant, tights or fitted shirt over them.

[edit] Tips

  • Wear a neoprene waist belt under your business suit at work, while on a road trip, etc. You can sweat off water weight.
  • Be sure to shower with an antibacterial or strong shower gel before and after wearing the belt. You want to reduce as much chance for body odor while wearing the belt.
  • Buy several belts so you can wash them and have a few on standby. They cost less than $10 (US) at the most sporting good stores but can be purchased for around $5-$6 (US) at larger discount retailers like Wal-Mart or K-Mart. Look in the sporting good sections.
  • Neoprene shorts are also made and those are great to cover the bloat prone areas of the stomach, hips and thighs.
  • This is not for long term weight loss but to quickly eliminate water weight for a special occasion.
  • Weekly use with certain products (Bliss) can eliminate the appearance of cellulite for a temporary basis.
  • These are great tips to try before a wedding, special occasion, weigh-in for sports, beach trip, etc. but should never been done as part of a routine weight loss plan.
  • You will be sweating in areas where you normally don't apply deodorant. Be aware of your "personal scent" and if it becomes too much you should try to remove the wraps, shower and then reapply. Don't apply an anti-perspirent to the area but if you read carefully you may have some products that are deodorant only. Those can be sprayed if necessary.
  • Usually if you are clean when you are applying to wraps you will still be able to function through your day without embarrassing odor.
  • If possible you can avoid the wrapping by spending several minutes a day in a dry sauna. Not only will you lose water weight but it is also soothing to the muscles and joints.
  • If you must combine the wrapping please make sure you remove and and all wrappings before entering a sauna. The heat from the sauna will melt the plastics and could cause burns to the skin.

[edit] Warnings

  • This is a tip for events when you must loose some water weight/bloat to fit into an outfit that is slightly too snug, make a certain weight for a weigh-in, etc.
  • These tips should not replace a healthy diet or effective work out plan.
  • Do not overexert yourself or wear so long you become dehydrated. Do not add additional heat sources (heating pads) to increase the thermal effects. You can sustain burns from the pad or from melting the plastic.
  • Remove the wraps if you start cramping, feeling dizzy or feel too hot. Drink cool fluids to bring down your body temperature and move to a cool area.

[edit] Things You'll Need

  • Saran Wrap or any other food plastic wrap sold in your grocery store.
  • Neoprene belt or shorts.
  • A room or environment where you have some control over the climate.
  • Sauna-ideal but not necessary.
