How to Love Your Horse

Showing your love to your horse and showing others how much you love your horse is an important feature when it comes to pleasure and competition riding and handling. Loving and caring for your horse doesn't mean spoiling it, but showing your affection to it and maintaining the I'm teh boss' status. This article will show how to love your horse as well as how to show others you love your horse.

[edit] Steps

  1. Visit your horse every day or at the very least, every second day.
  2. Don't rush your horse. Let your horse take its time.
  3. Don't show your horse off to everyone. This will tire and possibly confuse your horse meeting too many new people. Let your horse understand that you are important to him/her and he/she will trust you.
  4. Brush your horse well!
  5. Two-point, or something like two-pointing up hills. This makes it easier on your horse!
  6. Some horses will do exactly what you tell them! So, to care for your horse [and yourself] try not to excessively whip or kick them!
  7. Try not to yell or cry or be to emotional around your horse! This can frighten your horse!
  8. Make sure when you go on long rides, you rest your horse some by taking breaks to just walk.

If your horse is lame, let him/her rest until he/she is better!
  10. Muck out your horse's stall! Be sure to do this on a regular basis. [ You wouldn't want to live in a dirty stall would you]

[edit] Tips

  • For brushing your horse, have all the necessary brushes, including the curry comb, soft brush, hard brush, tail brush and foot picker.
  • Besides brushing, be sure to bathe your horse on a regular basis!
  • For newer riders, Two pointing is basically where you put your heels up in your stirrups, raise your butt out of your saddle and lean back. Not lazily!
  • Try to wear proper attire for riding horses while riding! This includes: helmet, riding pants or jeans, and boots.
