How to Make Bolivian Silpancho

A very popular dish in Bolivia is Silpancho. It is a perfect way to show your cooking skills. Here's how to make Silpancho.

  • bread crumbs
  • four eggs
  • two tablespoons of parsley
  • olive oil
  • two peeled potatoes
  • three cups of rice
  • seven cups of water
  • two strips of meat (1 centimeter thick each)
  • diced beets, tomatoes and onions (all raw)

  1. Gather your ingredients and the items that you need for this recipe.
  2. Place the pieces of meat into the Ziploc bag along with a cup or two of bread crumbs.
  3. Shake the bag and then proceed to gently pound each side of the bag with your fists.
  4. Make sure the meat is completely covered with bread crumbs.
  5. Repeat Steps 2- 4 with the other piece of meat.
  6. Crack open two eggs on top of the bowl and make sure that everything except for the egg shells make it into the bowl.
  7. Add the parsley into the bowl and mix the contents of the bowl together with a spoon or whisk.
  8. Turn on a burner to medium and place the pan on it, now add olive oil until it is halfway up the pan.
  9. Turn on two other burners and place the pots on the burners.
  10. Pour three cups of water and the two peeled potatoes into one of the pots. Cover the pot with the lid.
  11. Pour four cups of water and the rice into the other pot. Cover the pot with the lid
  12. Dunk one of the meats into the bowl with the eggs and parsley in it.
  13. Place the meat that you just dunked into the olive oil pan.
  14. Cook the meat to whatever point you like. Example: rare, medium rare, medium, well done.
  15. Repeat Steps 11-13 with the other piece of meat.
  16. Check the rice, once the rice is nice and puffy and the water is bubbling to a point where it’s going out of the pot, remove the lid.
  17. Remove the potatoes with a fork.
  18. Place the rice equally on each plate. Put a potato in the middle
  19. Place meat, and vegetables on top of rice and enjoy your silpancho!

  • Add diced tomatoes and onion on top of the meat to make it taste better.

  • Do not touch the pans or pots while they are on the burners

Also dont play around or you'll get your self dirty
