How to Make Fire Without Matches or a Lighter

No matches? No lighter? No problem! Now you can make a fire using some simple household objects: steel wool and batteries.

[edit] Steps

  1. Rub the battery terminals on the steel wool and blow on it.
  2. Use this to light the tinder, and there you have it!
  3. Another way to do this is to get a 9V battery and a metal paperclip. Rub the paperclip on both pegs at the top at the same time to create sparks.
  4. Use the sparks to light the tinder.

[edit] Tips

  • The finer the steel wool the better.
  • Most batteries will work but 9 volt batteries are easiest.
  • This works by sending a current through the tiny steel wires, which in turn get super heated.
  • This is similar to how the wires in light bulbs and toasters operate.

[edit] Warnings

  • Don't burn your fingers.
  • Don't burn the house down!
  • the steel wool will catch on fire an not go out and it will make a lot of sparks i do not recomend doing this

[edit] Things You'll Need
