How to Make Hair Removal Wax at Home
Very easy and reliable!
[edit] Steps
- Pour the sugar, water and lemon juice all together in a heavy saucepan, and heat it over a low flame. Keep stirring the mixture to avoid burning. Stir it until all the sugar has melted, and you have a thick brown liquid. Let it cool slightly before using it. It can be stored in a heat proof container for later use.
- Prepare your strips of fabric. If you don't have strips already, you can cut up or tear up a dish towel (preferably 100% linen or cotton, not anything stretchy). If you're worried about frayed edges, you can sew around the edges of your strips with a sewing machine.
- Dust the area with cornstarch or baby powder, if you want.
- Use a wooden tongue depressor or a spatula to apply your sugar wax to the area you want to wax. Move in the direction of hair growth.
- Take a strip of fabric, place it on the wax and smooth it on in the direction of hair growth.
- Wait a little while for your wax to cool completely. You can pull lightly on the bottom edge of your fabric strip to see if it sticks well enough.
- Hold your skin taut by pulling at it from a point underneath the edge of your fabric strip and pull the strip off AGAINST the direction of hair growth. Do this very quickly. Do not pull it off at a 90° angle, but in a more shallow angle.
- Store any leftover wax in fridge. It can be easily warmed up in the microwave for later use.
[edit] Tips
- This natural home made wax can be used for waxing for arms, legs, underarms, upper lips and eyebrows.
- Be sure to test the temperature of the wax very carefully before applying it to your skin! Sugar heats up very much more than water and can cause serious burns.
