How to Make Homemade Roasted Peppers

Homemade roasted peppers are so much more delicious than the store bought kind! And very easy to make!

[edit] Steps

  1. Set the oven to 'broil.'
  2. Line the cookie sheet with aluminum foil and spray lightly with non stick cooking spray.
  3. Set the peppers on the sheet and put in the oven. The object is to burn the skin on the peppers so you can peel it off.
    • Use a pair of tongs to turn the peppers as the skin turns black.
  4. When the peppers have turned black all over, use the tongs and put them in the paper bag.
  5. Twist the bag shut and leave the peppers in there until they are room temperature.
  6. When the peppers have cooled, take them out of the bag and peel the black skin off.
  7. Cut the peppers into strips and place them on a plate, or platter.
  8. Sprinkle with salt, pepper, chopped garlic, onion powder, basil and oregano.
  9. Drizzle generously with olive oil.
  10. Cover plate with saran wrap and put in the fridge for at least an hour to let the flavors marinate.
  11. Serve on Italian bread rounds, or in your favorite roasted pepper recipe.

[edit] Tips

  • Make sure you use red, red peppers. The skin won't peel if it's green.
  • Make sure you twist the paper bag shut tightly when you put the charred peppers in there.
  • Make sure the peppers have cooled completely inside the paper bag before you take them out and peel them.

[edit] Warnings

  • Use care when using the broiler.
