How to Make Hush Puppies
The story goes fisherman cooked hush puppies to feed their barking dogs hence the name --- hush puppies.

- 2 cups corn meal
- 1 cup flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1/2 cup chopped onions
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 3/4 cup water
- 1/2 cup butter, melted
- 1 egg

- Preheat deep fat fryer to 370 degrees F.
- Sift dry ingredients together.
- Spoon dry ingredients into a small bowl.
- Add onions, buttermilk and water to dry ingredients.
- Mix well.
- Add melted butter and egg.
- Blend ingredients together.
- Drop batter by small spoonfuls into hot fat.
- Fry until golden.
- Makes about 30 hush puppies.

- Use care when cooking with a deep fat fryer.
- Sift together corn meal, flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt and sugar. Pour mixture into a small mixing bowl.
- Add onions, buttermilk and water and mix well. Add melted butter and egg. Blend.
- Drop by spoonfuls into deep fat fryer (370 degrees F) and fry until golden brown.
- Makes about 30 hush puppies.
