Slicing the vanilla beans
Slicing the vanilla beans

Vanilla sugar is used in many different recipes, so it's always good to have a little prepared to save time later.

[edit] Ingredients

  • 1–2 vanilla beans (also known as pods)
  • Granulated sugar (enough to half fill jar)

[edit] Steps

  1. Pour the sugar into your container, and slice the beans carefully into small pieces.
  2. Bury the bean pieces in the sugar, and put the lid on extra tight.
  3. Store in a cool, dark closet for a minimum of 3-4 weeks.
  4. Use as needed.

[edit] Tips

  • As you use the sugar, you can replace it with more. The beans will continue to release their aromas for up to two years.

[edit] Warnings

  • Be careful with the knife!
