Ever wanted to make a well? Well here's how! (no pun intended)
[edit] Steps
- Dig a hole about five feet deep and three feet wide.
- Smooth out the edges when done digging.
- Place bricks around the walls of the hole and about two feet above it.
- Buy a roof. When the cement is dry, buy a roof for the well (you can buy these at your local hardware store) and while you are there buy a bucket with a handle.
- Select the wood for the sides. Buy two pieces of wood the height of how high you want the roof of your well to be.
- Nail the roof and pieces of wood together (the wood will be placed on the rim of the top row of bricks).
- Drill one hole the size of a rope at the top of both pieces of wood (about three inches under the nail where you nailed the roof to it).
- Get a thick rope about six feet long, place the rope through the handle of the bucket and stick the rope through the holes in the wood.
- Nail the ends of the rope to the pieces of wood.
- Fill the well with water about half way and you have a well!
[edit] Tips
- Don't forget to cement the bricks together.
- Check any rules and regulations or codes in your area.
[edit] Warnings
- Make sure you are digging in an area where it is legal.
- Have at least one other person doing this with you.
- This well design is not meant to work, it is just for decoration.
