| Very good point. By way of a possible explanation, sometimes people miss messages..(when two or more messages load at once, I sometimes fail to notice and read any but the last on the list). So I have left a note for Heather asking if she missed your message. I will be checking back to your talk page later to see how she responds about your question. | |

Hey Harold, I just happened to come across your Spotlight article calendar and noticed that the spotlight article was a couple days past due for changing. I went ahead and changed the article and updated the RSS. I just didn't want your schedule to get messed up. I hope you didn't mind. Just letting you know, Eric |

As you may have noticed, I've been away from wikiHow for a bit... As a (rather poor) excuse, I purchased a Nintendo Wii and have been absolutely addicted to it for a few days (weeks). Lets just say that in the time since I bought my wii and now, I've acquired 450+ emails (mostly non-human, but still...). I will add all of the August and September Saturdays now. Thanks, Harold Josh |

Agreed. Reality seems much nicer for some strange reason... Forcing little monkeys in balls to roll around on a track, or making a skilled swordsman defeat countless numbers of odd looking creatures isn't quite as satisfying as a real conversation.

Hey! Is there any difference between an Eskimo snow house and an igloo? If so, you might want to make note of that in the intro for the article on eskimo snow houses to keep it from getting tagged for merging. =) -K. |

Hmmm. Well, I guess I'd research whether those differences are distinctly Eskimo. If so, it should remain separate, because as far as I know, not all (most, but not all) snow houses were built by Eskimo/Inuit peoples. The general article on how to build an igloo might describe more general methods, while the one about Eskimo snow houses could focus in on Eskimo practices in particular. If you can't find any info on what makes Eskimo technique distinct, I'd put an attention tag and a to-do list on the discussion page, calling for more Eskimo-specific info. I'd also make a note on the discussion page stating that the article should not be merged because not all igloos are built by Eskimos, and the article you wrote is supposed to focus on Eskimo snow houses. Despite any lack of Eskimo-specific info, creating a redirect from a more specific topic to a more general topic is never a good idea. |

| Krystle said: | On 20:37, August 10, 2007 |
| The issue with redirecting might be that someone one day might search specifically for info on building an Eskimo snow house, and get redirected to a page on how to build a generic igloo. But, that's a very specific situation, and if someone really wanted to zone in on the Eskimo way, they could always create an article like "How to build an igloo with the Eskimo technique" or something. So yeah, redirecting would make sense, if that's what you'd like to do. | |

Hey! The main merge target for articles describing that subculture is Be Goth. An article like "Be Gothic" would be merged to "Be Goth" b/c the latter is more commonly searched. I took a brief look at the article, and I don't see it as needing merging, but it specifically addresses those in a certain age group, and even explains what's different about being "goth" in middle school (i.e. not too extreme or provocative). Perhaps I'd change the title to "Be Goth in Middle School" and leave as is. Thoughts?

Hey Harold,
After reevaluating my priorities, I've decided that I'm taking an indefinite wikiVacation. This means that I'm going to block myself and not visit wikiHow again until it can fit comfortably within my schedule. This also means that either you'll have to go down to one SA a week, or you'll have to recruit a new Saturday SA manager. As you are the only one other than myself who is "trained" at doing the SA, I'm leaving that job up to you.
Just to let you know, this is a big step for me. I have never taken a vacation from wikiHow for longer than a week, and I didn't have much of a choice in the matter. I've never stayed away for longer than a week...
But, my education, mental and physical health, and continued participation in extracurriculars comes before wikiHow.
I'll be leaving a message on the forum as well as on my user page.
Just thought I'd let you know since it directly affects an activity you do on wikiHow.
I'll still occasionally be on my email; maybe we'll chat one day! :)
Thanks for doing such a great job pretty much everywhere, Josh

One of the areas that he and I worked on is the Spotlight Article that is seen on the front page every day.
I won't go into huge detail, but I was wondering if any admin out there had some extra time on Saturdays to change the spotlight article. This person would also need to work on creating a calendar of future SAs so that we have some waiting. This makes changing them easier.
Current situation is that I change the SA on Wednesdays and someone else (Josh in the past) changes it on Saturday.
Anyway, if you have the extra time, just send me a private email. Smile I'm locking this thread since there doesn't need to be any discussion. Thanks!Aren't all admins responsible =P

Hey Harold!
I was wondering - can we update the spotlight article summary on the home page to reflect the intro that's in the actual article? The current version seems to lose the meaning of Kung Fu tea and has some grammatical errors. If the existing intro is too long for the home page, how about this...?
You are probably most familiar with the Chinese words "Kung Fu" as referring to the martial art, but it actually signifies skillfulness and is often associated with devotion and hard work. A Kung Fu tea ceremony involves preparing tea with great skill. The goal is to create a tea that is delicious and expresses a job well done.

And (2) I couldn't find the summary on the main page edit box. Is it there and I missed it? Or perhaps it's a template? I didn't think of that at the time...! Anyway, thanks for the help. Just got back from a quick trip to New Hampshire and wanted to send you this wiki postcard. It is a photo I took after hiking up Mount Monadnock. I missed you and everyone else at wikiHow when I was gone.
Thanks so much for making wikiHow a better place. You are making our shared dream of a free, complete, high quality how-to manual possible. Thanks.

Aww!!! I see what you mean, it appears fine in FF, but not IE. Now, it doesn't look as good in FF, but it looks good in IE. :@

Yea, OCT. 31 is set. The wikiHow Herald is releasing tonight, so I am running around with that right now, but tonight I will change the tag wording and add it to my SAs, if you want to add it to your choices?

I replaced the broken link in that article with a valid one. The article is accurate to some extent, but the process shown there is outdated and won't work with everyone's PC. It is essentially a hack that allows people to use UX themes on Windows without installing a third-party software that costs money.

Thanks for your message about preserving the tin of paint, however I think you are confusing humour for sarcasm, which in my view is a shame. As a professional in the education system one of the ways of making things understandable is to use humour and not make technical manuals too, dare I say, rigid. I must say that I apologise that if you found the article sarcastic, one thing you can be sure of is that I will not post in future as obviously my attempts to contribute are not welcome. Rather a shame isn't it!

Hello Hafarr6ft:
My username is Yasmine81. Lucky Bear left a message on my talk page listing you as someone I could ask for help. I seem to have a problem, I can’t log in.
Every time I try it says I’m logged in, but then when I go to do something I’m not. This morning it says I have the wrong password, but last night it would just say I was logged in and then I wasn’t as soon as I did anything. What am I doing wrong?

Hey Harold,
Long time, no chat!
I came back to wikiHow for a quick holiday visit. It doesn't seem like too much has changed, and I'm glad...
How are things on your end? How is the Spotlight treating you?
It's almost sad returning after so long a break; my instinct tells me to come back for good, but my mind is telling me that would be an academically bad idea.
Every once in a while, while my mind is wandering in one of the more boring classes, I think of wikiHow and what I wish I could return to. I know that even if I returned as a fully fledged administrator, contributing daily (like in the beginning), it wouldn't be the same. Ah...
Well, I hope things continue to go well here for you and everyone else. Of everyone, I considered you one of my good friends.
Talk to you eventually :),
Josh

Hi. I'm new to wikiHow, and I can't remember everything I read. I took a picture from Yahoo! Search and put it in one of my articles. Then I got a message, saying that I have to give the URL where I got the picture. I sent the reply. Is it ok? And by taking the picture, did I break any rule of either wikiHow or Yahoo!?

Just an FYI -- in case you didn't catch it on the Forums, the Household Cyclopedia is the resource of the week. I've already added one article on making blackberry wine. Will add more later.
